One of our friends is having a little girl and she's asked for suggestions from our group. She wants one name from every member.

She would like something a little unusual but nothing that's going to make problems for her child in the future.

I was watching YouTube (okay, I was trawling it for cat videos) and I came across this channel called Esselle and Eric. This chatty cat is really adorable but it's the woman's name that really struck me. Esselle. I've never come across the name before and I think it's a lovely name but I'm not sure if I'm being swayed by the fact she's sounds like a really nice person.

I was thinking of putting the name forward as my suggestion.

I know it's not a massively big deal in the grand scheme of things but I don't want the group laughing at me or thinking I'm weird.

Can I ask what you think.

Apart from a scented sanitary towel, as someone said, it sounds like somebody's initials and, as you came across it on YouTube, it very probably is. Sarah Louise, Susan Linda, Serena Laeticia.

Like others, I suspect that anyone with the name Esselle is going to find that any forms filled in verbally list their name as SL. And that it might give problems when companies think that SL are the initials and there's no proper name been given.

Somehow I am a British woman with an accent I can't identify who owns a house, a cat, a car, a YouTube channel, talks about a daughter in university and can be seen tending her garden with her cat.

All at the same time as I am hiding my broad Black Country accent, the fact I live in a small flat, can't drive, don't have a video channel anywhere, don't have a daughter, have no access to a garden and am wildly allergic to cats despite loving them, hence why I have to view cats from afar. I'm amazing. I'm so amazing I can be seen in cat videos walking about even though I'm in a wheelchair.

That's only my amazing powers of transformation from the few videos I've seen. Maybe I should watch some more. See what else I've been up to while housebound and terminally ill.

I'm off now. Thanks for the responses. I'm going to just pick one of the top 20 and leave it alone, as previously suggested. It's bad enough being made to feel like a twat on an anonymous forum without opening myself up to potential ridicule from people who actually know me. Although, I have no reason to believe any of them would be rude enough to mock if I had suggested the name.
