I need help with hotels in London

Inthehouse12 · 10/03/2025 15:41

Sorry for posting under AIBU, but I'm stressing out trying to find a hotel when I actually don't know what I'm looking for! So we're going to the minecraft experience in London next month, the address is Corner Corner, Maritime St, London SE16 7LL. In Canada water. I've never been to London and am travelling from South wales. After searching for hotels using the postcode, so many hotels come up, but does anyone know what the best area would be for easy and quick access to the event? If anyone could help me, I'd be so grateful 🙏

Look for a premier inn nearby you cannot go wrong and know what you getting

Pootles34 · 10/03/2025 15:44

What's your budget op - just as low as poss? Anything else you're wanting to do whilst there?

Do you just need somewhere to sleep, or looking for something more special?

neverknowinglyunreasonable · 10/03/2025 15:45

I don't want to sound unkind but have you ever booked a hotel before? Filter the results based on price, star rating, breakfast, budget and then pick one nearby. We don't know how much you want to spend, how you are travelling, who is going so it's tricky to help loads.

Have fun.

Icanttakethisanymore · 10/03/2025 15:45

Are you just attending the event or do you want to do other things while you are there?

I guess it's the areas she is unsure about.

Mynewnameis · 10/03/2025 15:48

Novtel chain/ ibis / mercue also worth looking at.
I've had a good experience at locke

BassesAreBest · 10/03/2025 15:48

Any Premier Inn near a Jubilee Line station would probably work.

PenneyFouryourthoughts · 10/03/2025 15:49

Download the CityMapper app to help get to your destination.

I would stay at the Premier Inn in Bankside, London Bridge, then it's a 15 minute hop on the Jubilee line to Canada Water. London Bridge has loads to do like Borough Market, the Thames Path, loads of nice places to eat and drink...

Or the DLR.

There is a youth hostel that is very close by. There is a Premier Inn on Tower Bridge Rd with a bus direct to Canada Water.
HIlton in Surrey Quays all easy to get to . All about £100 a nightb

Ringonrighthand · 10/03/2025 15:50

I would probably stay in Canary Wharf and get the tube over, it’s not far and Canary Wharf is lovely. You can sometimes get serviced apartments there too rather than hotel if you have family with you.

CleanShirt · 10/03/2025 15:50

There's a Travelodge in Bermondsey that's about a 20 minute bus journey from your event and easy to get into other parts of London too.

SheilaFentiman · 10/03/2025 15:51

Are you arriving by train into Paddington or are you driving to London?

Fergalsharktale · 10/03/2025 15:51

Any of the Premier Inns near London Bridge station - There are a few there. Just put London Bridge into your search on the Premier Inn site.

2 stops on Jubilee line and close to all things central London if you want a bit of a mooch.

OneTC · 10/03/2025 15:52

Bermondsey area and tower bridge area both good for Canada water.

Plenty of travel lodge and premier Inn offerings

twilightcafe · 10/03/2025 15:52

I would book a Premier Inn at London Bridge or Southwark. They are on the Jubilee Tube line which you can take to the event.
Both are also easy to get to from Paddington on the Tube (assuming you're coming in by train)

mismomary · 10/03/2025 15:56

Minecraft experience! Thanks for the heads up!

Or the DLR.

DLR is miles away from Canada Water. The nearest one is in Deptford, I think. And that's a good 30 min bus ride.
Overground to Surrey Quays would work though.

I can't think of any hotels in nearby areas so I would probably go with Waterloo or London Bridge.

Eh? It’s one tube stop away via Canary Wharf.

Inthehouse12 · 10/03/2025 16:09

I was thinking of driving there, but I'm also considering getting the train. I've heard it's a nightmare to drive around London. Would anyone advise against driving there?

Yes but that means you have to take two modes of transport. By that logic you could be in Morden as it's "only two tube stops" to Canary Wharf from where you change to Jubilee line. Never mind an hour it will take you to get to London Bridge on Northern line then.

user1471464167 · 10/03/2025 16:20

I live in the area . Parking would be difficult . Though as it is in a shopping centre they may let you park in the car park there. You can get family rooms in the Rotherhithe Youth Hostel. 10 min walk . The Brunel Musuem which is very close is fascinating about how the first tunnel was built under the Thames

Octavia64 · 10/03/2025 16:25

I have driven in central London.

It is not fun. Highly disrecommend. Also expensive with ULEZ and congestion charge

Um, OK. It was a quick journey I did every day when I lived there.

EXACTLY THIS. Greenwich or westferry.
use google map directions to see which gets you the easiest public transport route from your London main line station
Or choose the one with cheapest parking option

id look it all up but I question how invested I am in this
