Granny card on Mothers Day

I’ve noticed in the shops a lot of Happy Mothers Day Granny cards - I’m sure there always have been but I’ve only just noticed!

I wondered if it was the done thing for children to give their Grans cards?

I don’t remember doing it when I was younger but I have a baby so will need to decide if we will be and wondered what the consensus is

AIBU- yes totally normal and expected to give Granny a card from grandchild
AINBU- not expected, you just get a card for your own mums

As a granny of 5 - no, no, no. Don’t. 🙄

The day is for Mums - not Dads, grannies or anyone else 🤷‍♀️

The day is for celebrating those who have mother roles, not just mums. My nan was my mother for a while.

Our two don’t have a mum, so they tend to do a card for grandma on mothers day, it also prevents the “but wouldn’t your mummy love a card” at school despite the teacher knowing they don’t have a mum. It keeps me in grandmas good books too!

What fresh hell/marketing opportunity is this?

thaisweetchill · 10/03/2025 17:38

I'm 30 and get my nan a card, she does a lot for me and my son (alongside my mom). Will always get her one so she feels appreciated.

Never done Granny card on mother's day then again donodo cards from the pets too sure I saw some last year from the dog on mother's day.

I usually send a card to my mum, my grandma and my mother in law.
Don't see the harm - they are all mums to me in a way and it makes them happy

always been a thing, i’ve been getting them my whole life and I am approaching 50.

@CantHoldMeDown
Hahahaha
Of course he can, but I like sending cards.

My niece got one for her grandmother (my mum) as she had been very actively involved in raising my niece since she was tiny. My SIL struggled with depression so my mum stepped up, had the children, took them on holidays, went to all their school events etc.

I don't think it's widely perceived as "everyone must get a card for their gran" but there are many families in which grandmothers have been caregivers.

Yes, I agree with you.

I always sent a Mother’s Day card to both my Grandmothers (Grandma/Nana) and encourage my own daughters to do the same.
