Which US products can I weed out of my supermarket shop?

I am dead set on trying to spend nothing on US products. I’ve decided to stop buying Pringles and Pepsi / Coke and any US alcohol but both mars and Cadbury are now American aren’t they? What other US brands are in our food shops? Not a lot I think as most US food is ultra processed shite!

Tbh most of the American products us in uk use are not really groceries it's tech and media...think Amazon, apple and Microsoft

minnienono · 08/03/2025 21:47

Doritos, check origin of almond and all almond products, Betty Crocker products, actually stay clear of upf's and you'll be fine

Huckyfell · 08/03/2025 21:51

Delete amazon. Don't watch films. Don't buy mcd, or any us fast food. Don't buy anything Cadbury related, jd, us wine.

What about China also or is that not a worry?

saraclara · 08/03/2025 21:59

I already have two American friends who've lost their jobs due to Trump. Why on earth would you do anything to risk more job losses for people who don't deserve that?

I'm not sure why you think that not drinking Coke or Cadbury chocolate is going to damage Trump.

I agree. It is ridiculous how some people's brains work. The people employed by these companies are just ordinary people making a living.

It won't, but her teeth will thank her.

Ordinary people, making a living, mostly voting for Trump.

Well neither of my friends did and nor did any of my other friends over there, yet there they are. No income, and possibly losing the roofs over their heads. But thanks for assuming that every American deserves to lose their livelihood.

snowflakelake · 08/03/2025 22:16

You can drop Mars products but it's mostly people in Slough and Melton Mowbray (sp) that are going to suffer.
With some EU imports.
They don't ship US made products to the UK.

FondantFancyFan · 08/03/2025 22:22

Costco is an American company so avoid them, good luck trying to weed them all out.

0ohLarLar · 08/03/2025 22:24

Watch out for brands owned by US conglomerates such as Mondelez. Products for the uk might be manufactured in the uk due to our regulatory requirements for food, but a hell of a lot of profit will flow back to the US.

Jumpingthruhoops · 08/03/2025 22:26

Is this a serious thread? You really think boycotting these US brands will remotely affect Trump!? And HE'S the one who's deluded apparently... 🙄

TooBigForMyBoots · 08/03/2025 22:27

Kelloggs cereals.

Do you have an iPhone or an android? Are you going to give them up too. At the end of the day the people who work for these companies are just like you and me.
Are you not going to buy walkers crisps? They are owned by PepsiCo. What about Heinz products, will you stop buying them as well. Not to mention Kraft, McDonalds, Pizza hut, domino's, KFC, Krispy Kreme, Nestle, kellog, Estee lauder, colgate to name a few. The list is never ending. What's your motivation for avoiding American products and companies. What do you want to achieve?

TooBigForMyBoots · 08/03/2025 22:29

American wine, beers and spirits
Old El Paso

Snorlaxo · 08/03/2025 22:31

Do you drink wine? If so, avoid the ones from California.

I think we can only do small actions. But if enough do, then it may have a slight impact on the US economy.

And the other side of that is British/European companies can benefit. Which will increase tax revenue for their governments at a time when defence expenses are going up and so we need the cash.

I'm genuinely sorry for Americans caught in any crossfire. But I'm more concerned about Putin attacking Ukraine and then marching through the rest of Europe.

Trump's message is America first. Ours needs to be Europe first!

Nestle are Swiss.

Readytoplay · 08/03/2025 22:32

Sorry but I don’t agree in mas-boycotts in most instances, as I don’t agree in mass punishment.

Also should point out that most American brands (particularly food) that operate in the UK are run completely separately from their US parents so will likely have little to no impact to Trump.

As for the majority voted for trump, seeing as 49.8 percent voted for trump that isn’t accurate. In fact more people (50.2 precent) didn’t vote for trump. 48.3 voted for Haris, the remaining 1.3 precent voted for smaller parties/Indi candidates

It is more likely to be British workers that are affected if people don't buy these products in the UK. Most are made in the UK Even though they are owned by America. How does that achieve anything other than hurting our own economy?

Nope, most didn't vote for Trump. He achieved less than 50% of the vote so no, not mostly voting for Trump.

Yep. It's ridiculous. Virtually none of those products are imported from the US. They're made here, or in Europe. And those few things that are brought in from the US are made by ordinary people trying to pay their rent or mortgage and feed their kids. The last people to lose out will be those at the top of the tree. So all your doing is spiting the 'little people'

Fortunately though, let's face it, few people here are so stupid as to be determined not to buy this stuff, so OP 's boycott will have no impact at all.

To be fair, your friends lost their jobs because Trump's admin is slashing thousands upon thousands of government jobs.

"Boycotts" are highly unlikely to impact any American jobs, but people should spend their money as they see fit. Truthfully in the end most people do what is easiest and most convenient.
