No flights involved but just driving, it's an all day and evening conference, I will bring my hospital bag just in case.

I have an elective c section so will see where the hospital is local to the conference just in case but am I nuts for doing this?!

I physically feel fine, but don't know if I'm being naive?

I really want to go as it's quite important. AIBU to consider?

I never got beyond 35 weeks so it’s a no from me!

storminabuttercup · 06/03/2025 17:30

I'd be more worried about how comfortable you'd be driving for 3 hours? Ultimately it's your choice i don't think being away is a huge concern

devildeepbluesea · 06/03/2025 17:31

Wouldn’t have bothered me. DD came at 40+12 so I could have gone a month later 🤣

Strawberryorangejuice · 06/03/2025 17:31

I would say no. Slightly later but I went on maternity leave at 36 weeks to avoid a conference five hours away from home at 37 weeks. I gave birth while I would have been at the conference!

pleaseguveadvicenotattack · 06/03/2025 17:31

@storminabuttercup I'm not the driver someone else is driving! I'm passenger sorry should have said

I wouldn't risk it. Would self certify as sick if I couldn't easily get out of going or start my maternity leave earlier.

Sunny1234567 · 06/03/2025 17:33

I wouldn't risk it.

mindutopia · 06/03/2025 17:33

If you’re happy, I would go. I definitely didn’t want to be sitting around at home waiting. I’d rather be using my brain and out and about. I say that as someone who went into labour right at 37 weeks. As long as you’re happy to go wherever in the event of a surprise, sounds totally fine.

ParkyRunner · 06/03/2025 17:34

I wouldn’t even consider this as I definitely wanted to be able to get to the hospital that I was familiar with instead of what ever would be local.

Sometimes things happen quick and you need to get to the closest hospital asap. If you’re quite relaxed and ok with this then maybe it’s possible.

BatshitIsTheOnlyExplanation · 06/03/2025 17:35

I'd go. Take your bag and your maternity notes. Chances are it will be fine.

MissCalamity · 06/03/2025 17:35

It's a no from me! I went away for a weekend 2 hours drive away when I was 36 weeks with DC2, all weekend was fine until coming home and I had really bad braxton hicks, DP had to keep stopping at every other services on the way home. 😕

pleaseguveadvicenotattack · 06/03/2025 17:35

@mindutopia yes I'm happy to go with the flow!! As long as I have my bags with me. I just wasn't sure if I'm being really naive 😭 or there's something I don't know other than having to go to the hospital I didn't intend.

I dont want to just stay at home being bored to be honest

Would it be more disruptive to work if you said yes then bailed last minute?
My thought would be fine to go but any twinges or not feeling up to it pull out.

Mynewnameis · 06/03/2025 17:36

No way

pleaseguveadvicenotattack · 06/03/2025 17:36

@Cakeandusername it would be viable to pull out - not ideal as I don't like messing people around but they know the situation and wouldn't hold it against me

I went to a wedding 4.5 hours away at 36 weeks without my husband. Slightly different I know but I felt totally fine and would have done the same for work too.

minnienono · 06/03/2025 17:37

If you feel up to it no reason why not.

I went on maternity leave at 35 weeks myself

Anotherdayanotherdollar · 06/03/2025 17:37

Yeah, wouldn't bother me, provided all was well until that point

Civilservant · 06/03/2025 17:38

I wouldn’t want to drive for that long / that far and would want info on the maternity and special care baby services at hospital at the destination and en route

Cakeandusername · 06/03/2025 17:38

I suppose if you had baby at hospital near conference would dh get there in time?
Afterwards how would you get home - there’s those rules about only being in car seat very short time for newborns.

Why not do that then? Go into work but not to this event.

WilmaTitsDrop · 06/03/2025 17:38

YANBU but then again I went almost 2 weeks over with all 3 of mine.

Thirteenblackcat · 06/03/2025 17:39

How long is the conference? Do you need to stay overnight? I’d probably say no I wouldn’t go but i had difficult births

Talipesmum · 06/03/2025 17:40

Yes I would have. Think we had an away 2 days thing when I was about 35 weeks, I remember being v v pregnant anyway. I had a pretty easy pregnancy and felt fine.

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 06/03/2025 17:41

I went from London - Birmingham for a meeting at 36 weeks - my manager was terrified!
