Are you an irritable person?

I feel like I am such an irritable person. There are so many things that annoy me on a daily basis. I don't particularly want to be like this. I find most other people selfish, rude, noisy etc

Not really, no. And if anything does irritate me it's a momentary thing, then gone.

OneWaryCat · 05/03/2025 19:17

My husband often says 'Let them' which is from a psychologist called Mel Robbins.

If someone has a view you don't like, or wants to do something you don't, or has an idea for something etc, just say to yourself 'Let them'.

And to be honest, it does work. Just fucking let them. Who cares? You do you.

Excellent advice, I’m going to try this because everything seems to annoy the hell out of me these days! 😂

Ooo love a bit of Mel Robbins. I've customised that a bit a say f*ck them, I find that better suits me. That being said I am menopausal.

BitOutOfPractice · 05/03/2025 19:32

I’m not no. Only really with myself.

ThreeMagicNumber · 05/03/2025 19:32

No not really unless I'm tired and hungry then I have zero patience and everything annoys me.

Mingenious · 05/03/2025 19:33

No, I’m generally so laid back I’m almost horizontal, don’t hold a grudge either.

When I do lose my temper though I really lose it, but when it’s done it’s done and forgotten about.

AcquadiP · 05/03/2025 19:35

I try not to let others irritate me because it's a waste of energy and changes my mood. I try to concentrate on positive interactions instead. Easier said than done I know but with practice it gets easier.

babasaclover · 05/03/2025 19:42

Yes sadly. It started around the age of 30 I think. If I have to be out of the house for too long and encounter too many people then it's just awful.

Today on school run pulled into a road, non lorry coming so obviously I pull in and wait for them to load. Guy behind me pulls in and immediately goes round me whilst I'm still pulling in. The bin lorry is coming downhill towards us no way he didn't see it. He continues to force his way forward in his ford kuga whilst the bin men just laugh at him. Fucking hate people - don't want to be annoyed but how can you not

hididdlyho · 05/03/2025 19:52

I manage to mask being easily irritated well most of the time, but I do get that split second when my inner voice screams 'for fucks sake'. I think 25 years working in customer service probably explains it.

LakieLady · 05/03/2025 19:55

Yes, and I'm intolerant as well!

I find the effort of holding my tongue and not letting rip about things positively exhausting at times.

ThisIsMyYearToFindMyself · 05/03/2025 19:56

The unhappier I am with myself and my life, the more irritable I am with everyone and everything.

gamerchick · 05/03/2025 19:57

Only when period is due. Then I make an effort to go low people until it starts

Ferrazzuoli · 05/03/2025 19:59

No, I'm quite a laid back person and I don't easily get irritated.

LemograssLollipop · 05/03/2025 20:00

Very. I feel I'm permanently irritated.

Techno56 · 05/03/2025 20:02

Not by people but by objects. Packaging that's hard to open, spilling water everywhere by mistake, dropping things, mess appearing in a freshly cleaned area..

AngelaRaynersGlottalStops · 05/03/2025 20:04

Yes, it’s a symptom of an illness I’ve been diagnosed with though.

Oblomov25 · 05/03/2025 20:06

I'm irritated constantly. I do my job properly. I'm surrounded by people who don't. Shit service from all sorts of areas of the nhs - who do these people keep their jobs? People in nhs who don't send blood tests requests to my GP despite my ringing 3 times; poor service at restaurants; at work people from other companies who don't do as they said they would, don't pay as previously agreed.

It all pisses me off.

Pleasedontdothat · 05/03/2025 20:06

I wasn’t until I had a head injury last year and although my scans are now completely normal I find myself getting irrationally irritated by small things that used not to bother me. I hate it ..

curtaintwitcher78 · 05/03/2025 20:09

I'm irritable but it's usually inanimate objects that I'm vexed with. Spend my life swearing at scarves and door handles.

MrsTerryPratchett · 05/03/2025 20:14

I used to be when I was married to exH, he was a wanker. I turned my anger outwards.

Have a think about any personal circumstances you need to change.

changedusernameforthis1 · 05/03/2025 20:18

No, I wouldn't say I am.

I get irritable when people are deliberately rude or just being argumentative for the sake of it though.
I'm known for my cheery "YOU'RE WELCOME!" If someone doesn't even acknowledge me for say, holding the door for them.

But I'm mostly pretty laid back. Maybe it's me. Maybe it's the antidepressants. Might never find out.

I agree definitely starts around 30. Here was me thinking I was getting old before my time Grin

DullardFrigate · 05/03/2025 20:26

No I'm not but dh is and it's so annoying.
I like "Let them" but dh would be "why the fuck should I?, they're the idiots"

I just focus on myself and my family. Anyone else can do whatever they like unless it impacts directly on my family.

AFairDistance · 05/03/2025 20:30

No, not really. If I’m massively irritated by someone I know it’s something to do with me, rather than them.
