Are you a nosy neighbour?

I'm not the interfering kind a la Norris from Corrie

I've got a ring doorbell and I do have a look at what people are doing 🙈

I'll even remark to myself, 'she's going out again, omg' or see what they've brought back from the shops

I love to look out of the window for no reason as well

No point to this thread really 😭😭, just inspired by my neighbour getting another deliveroo takeaway and me passing judgement and secretly wishing I was getting a takeaway 🙈🤭

You do realise the nosy neighbours are often the ones who call the police when something is happening, gets the council to unblock the drains, fix the lights and notice when someone's bins aren't taken in and checks they are OK?

I’m not necessarily looking for stuff to be nosy about but if something happens I’ll have a look. Lad across the road was arrested recently so saw some of that from bedroom window. He’s been abusive to his GF so was pleased to see this.

my neighbour are n

Hyperfish808 · 10/04/2025 07:11

Are nosy I meant to say.

YesThatsATurdOnTheRug · 10/04/2025 07:58

No idea what's happening with my neighbours but I do open the window a bit wider if there's a drunken row/loud conversation happening outside in the early hours; if you're going to wake me up you better be entertaining!! We didn't realise when we bought the house how many people wandered home from the pub past our front Grin

daffodilandtulip · 10/04/2025 08:04

I wouldn't use my camera and I work in the back room, but my reading chair is in the front window so I will do a kind of daydream watch when I'm sitting there. I don't really think anything of it though, but I do find it interesting, the same way as I'd people watch sitting in Costa. Oh and they all have names that aren't their actual names 😂

I don’t think this thread will go down well OP 😂 I read a thread once were the poster was worried about a neighbours dog as they had never seen it leave the house; and all they got was extreme backlash for his ring doorbell being able to see the front of other people’s property’s 😂

MinnieMountain · 10/04/2025 08:09

I’ve been nosy recently as a car with 2 people in it has been stopping on the road outside for a good 15 minutes in the early mornings. I’ve finally worked out that one person is giving the other a lift back from work and they can’t stop outside his home as he lives in a flat on the corner.

shellyleppard · 10/04/2025 08:10

This is me..... I'm always commenting who has a new car 🤣🤣 but I keep an eye out for my elderly neighbour too

DiscoBeat · 10/04/2025 08:14

We don't have neighbours here as in houses next to ours but but there about 5 long gardens that back on to ours. We were very interested when one of them built an office at the end of their garden, with workmen on the roof, and we were commenting about them! Or we occasionally see someone up a tree doing some maintenance on it and judge their work!

applemash · 10/04/2025 08:18

No, as long as they arent doing anything illegal or anti social I couldnt give a toss what they are doing. I find this quite odd to be honest, we used to have a neighbour who was always watching what people were doing and I found it quite sad- made me think they didnt have much else going on in their own life.

MadameSzyszkoBohusz · 10/04/2025 09:49

I’m the opposite of nosy, I have zero interest in what other people are doing!

I’m not unfriendly, I know my neighbours to say hello to and have a brief chat, and most of us on the street help each other out with small favours when needed - but I mind my own business and assume other people are doing the same.

Never even occurred to me that someone might be taking any interest in my dull comings and goings!

CharSiu · 10/04/2025 09:56

My neighbour msg me telling me her DH hadn’t left her in case I was wondering where he was. I hasn’t noticed at all but did leave me thinking it’s because she would have noticed. I’m not super nosey but I’m interested I suppose. I have a neighbour with 2 primary age kids and I do make a point of chatting to them as the kids are super cute. It’s a friendly road overall.

😭😭 I'm sorry!!

The battery doorbells record motion nearby, the wired ones can constantly record

Ours (wired) doesn't record anything actually because we've never got round to subscribing to the service. It just acts as a giant peephole that we could speak to people through if we wanted to but we never have. If you subscribe, the battery ones record too. The actual doorbells are no different.

My mother's nosy neighbour saved my mother's life once when she had fallen into the bath and couldn't get out. She saw that her curtains were still closed at lunchtime, went round and heard her calling for help. I hate to think what would have happened if she had decided it was none of her business.
