Air tag tracking me but I don't own one

Hi just need a bit of advice on how these work. Last day or two my phone keeps telling me im near an air tag .. but I don't own one. From history it's only tracking me when I'm in my car. It shows every journey I made today. I asked my soon to be ex partner as he has one and he said why do I have his air tag on my phone? .. I don't have his on my phone! I never received notifications on his whereabouts when he used it and the history is only tracking where i have been not anyone else. He said he's not put it in my car but we are going through a break up due to emotional abuse on his part so I don't want to demand to see his as trying to avoid further conflict, is there any explanation for this other than he has hid one in my car? Only me and my DD been in car she's 9 and doesn't have one.

OP posts:

Hope the OP comes back to update. I know we're not owed an update but I am worried about her.

OP if you find it hidden be really careful about your next moves. If he was/is abusive this is likely just the start of escalation now you're trying to leave.
OTOH I hope it's not that for your sake
Good Luck

This ^. i would find it, keep a note of where and in the background start preparing your getaway. Change passwords, gather papers etc go to the police. When you’re ready, go. Give the AirTag to someone who is travelling well away from where you are and ask them to throw it anywhere they see fit. Don’t alert partner to the fact you know, this is when things can escalate very quickly. Don’t put yourself at risk and make sure the police are aware.

Tahlbias · 04/03/2025 12:24

I would take it somewhere to be looked at. I bet a garage could find it, of you asked!

Needspaceforlego · 04/03/2025 15:22

She needs to have a good look herself first. She's going to look daft and waste money if is somewhere obvious like under the cushion of the back seat or in beside the spare wheel.

Yes if she can't find it get a garage to look underneath the car but realistically is he going to have put it under the car or in the car?
Unless he has access to ramps it will be somewhere reasonably accessible.

DailyDoily · 04/03/2025 15:27

It's not about it being easy to find herself, it is about having someone independent finding it in case she needs to prove a pattern of controlling behaviour.

Grrrpredictivetex · 04/03/2025 16:02

@frustratedplusone did you resolve this?

GrannyNannyMagratandGreebo · 04/03/2025 17:39

OP are you ok?Flowers

Festivespirit85 · 04/03/2025 18:39

Have you found it or been to the police yet OP?

GrannyNannyMagratandGreebo · 04/03/2025 19:22

Theunamedcat · 02/03/2025 11:33

No but there is an app you can download to scan for them

What's the name of the app?

Merida46 · 05/03/2025 09:51

If/when you find the tag go to a bus station and give it to somebody heading far away. Ask them to do the same thing with it when they get to their destination and so on.........

CalicoPusscat · 05/03/2025 10:18

OP might need it for police though. Just to get it recorded not challenge him at this point, her safety is paramount

Omgblueskys · 05/03/2025 13:42

Must of been found by now

BoiledOrRoastPotatoes · 05/03/2025 17:02

These posts seem to pop up every now and then but I have never seen a conclusion to them. Never seen if they have found the air tag or not. The OP seems to come on panicking about it then is never heard from again. I’m hoping that is because they are fake posts and not because they are harmed in any way.

Dolambslikemintsauce · 01/03/2025 23:55

Take it to a reputable garage. I bet they will look for free.....

I would definitely be looking into that. I don't know how it work's but I dont like the sound of that. Hope you get to the bottom it, all the best.

AnxiouslyAwaitingSpring · 06/03/2025 20:21

Are you ok OP? I always worry about people who say they have a controlling/abusive partner and then disappear 🫥

justasmalltownmum · 06/03/2025 20:51

You can do a find my air tag I think.

I used my brothers back up which had his air tag in. And my phone started going off saying air tag nearby etc.

Just dig around the car with your phone nearby.

Bumpinthenight · 07/03/2025 22:17

Husband's airtag has popped up on my (android) phone tonight. I was able to make it play a sound.

Air tag tracking me but I don't own one
scoobysnaxx · 08/03/2025 18:18

@frustratedplusone how are you OP? Any update? Hope you are okay x

Bittenonce · 08/03/2025 20:29

You should be able to make it play a sound so you can locate it? Then put in on a train, bus…. If not then turn off Bluetooth on your phone so it can’t track you

truecrimelover · 08/03/2025 21:04

Did you get sorted, OP?

CalicoPusscat · 08/03/2025 21:29

Don't think OP is coming back 🤷‍♀️

Probably posted in a panic but has other things to think about.

notatinydancer · 09/03/2025 10:54

@frustratedplusone did you find anything?

Widower2014 · 09/03/2025 13:09

When you find it, chuck it in a skip or tipper lorry as you go past

TinyFlamingo · 09/03/2025 13:20

A friend has had to move 3 times in a year, in this last place she found her stbx had put an air tag in his daughter's coat and was getting her to show him on Google maps where they were living.

It's really invasive and unsafe.

Dolambslikemintsauce · 01/03/2025 23:55

Take it to a reputable garage. I bet they will look for free.....

They won’t search a car for a AirTag for free😂

OP you are clearly being tracked by your ex partner.

tell him to remove the AirTag or you will report him to the police.
