House dilemma (with diagram)

Need some quick thoughts for this please as I'm on a timer. I went to look at a house through social housing yesterday, it's mine if I want it. There's a new bathroom and kitchen although everywhere else needs tlc. My main issue is that the next door neighbours have access to the back garden from their property, would this put anyone off? Diagram for looking at below. The arrows is where next door can walk through.

I'd put up a fence.

@BoredZelda ... to do what?

Keep them out of the main garden, but that would also block OP's view of it - low fence would not block the view but would also not stop any chatty neighbours stopping to chat on their way through.

Up against the window to keep them from looking in at OP as they pass by... would also stop her getting light or looking out.

To redirect them elsewhere - the right of way is across the back to the gate at the side of the row, you can't redirect a right of way without permission and it may not be possible to redirect it elsewhere, if other gardens back onto the OP's garden for example.

You can't simple block peoples access to their rear garden if a right of access applies!

my neighbours moved in a year ago, we have a fence and it is quite low so they can see over it. On the other side the fence is higher but as their garden is built higher they can see over the fence too.

Both sides have been caught many times looking over the fence into our kitchen by me, my son and ex. It was frigging annoying, so much we had to keep blinds closed when we didn't want to. In the end I would just stand and stare back at them to make them feel uncomfortable.

I would hope your neighbours are more respectful and not look into your kitchen window.

You could become overly chatty and detain them for inane conversations every time they come through your garden, it might put them off. 😁

Yes it's the rules I'm afraid, so nothing I can do about it

It's probably a really important access point. My family home on a street of Victorian terraces has gates all the way through and they have to be unlocked for access for wheelie bins and also for the fire brigade/ emergency services etc.

Temu usually has cheap removable privacy film for you window which wouldn’t block the light or your view. Less trouble than curtains or until you decide what else you need.

This might be worth a try!

I was just thinking of this yesterday too. How is it working out OP?

This is my first offer after being on the list since July 2023, relatively short compared to a lot of the country.

In that case I think you would be crazy not to take it. Can you fence off a bit of the garden to maintain access but increase privacy?

Take it and swap later if a problem?

Never ever would I go for it
