To be unhappy that a child with diarrhea came to the party

A mum brought her child to dd birthday party & said he had diarrhea and she'd put a pull up type nappy on him (he's 5). He wanted to come to the birthday & was unhappy he wasn't well. She only told me as she was chatting & her ds had run off to join in.

Just hope my kids & the others invited don't get sick.

No, I wouldn't be particularly impressed. She should have told you and asked whether you were happy for him to come. PArticularly if it is bad enough for him to need a nappy on!

Hecate · 10/05/2008 20:52

She did WHAT? A pull up nappy on a 5 yr old so he can come to a party? So he'd be running round with a nappy full of shit?

Are you sure he still HAD it, or he'd HAD it maybe the day before, seemed clear that day but she was just making sure?

I just cannot believe that someone would do that. Quite apart from the potential to transmit the bug to all the other kids - how humiliating for the child if he DID have an accident - nappies do not hold diarrhoea very well. I speak from messy, messy experience.

ElizabethBeresfordSW19 · 10/05/2008 20:53

Wow. a five yr old who had an accident (in to a nappy or not) would be so humiliated if it happened at a party in front of their friends!

misdee · 10/05/2008 20:53

OMG, i would have asked her to leave and not to be so irresponsible.

cupsoftea · 10/05/2008 20:53

Thought it odd - I've a lot on and just hope mine wont come down with this. He didn't have diarrhea when he was here luckily as I was busy with everything plus baby & my other kids.

And forever more known by his peers as the boy who wears a nappy and shits himself. He'll have fun on Monday.

cupsoftea · 10/05/2008 20:55

gosh - didn't think of how he'd feel about this! She told me not to give him anything to eat!

OP posts:
cupsoftea · 10/05/2008 20:55

Oh yes - he was proud to tell the others about his yellow poo explosion earlier!!

Hecate · 10/05/2008 20:55

Lucky he didn't have an accident as you were busy - so you'd have needed to deal with it? Sorry - by that do you mean she LEFT??? She did NOT leave did she, tell me I read that wrong?

SmoothandWilkie · 10/05/2008 20:57

Nooooooo - she didn't leave?!?!?!?!!!?????

cupsoftea · 10/05/2008 20:58

She did leave & didn't have any spare nappies. Was quite surprised - not sure what I would have done tbh - have some 2yr old nappies plus baby size!!

scottishmummy · 10/05/2008 20:58

OMG that is irresponsible.i do wonder why and a n adult cant explain to a child (with the trots) that it cant go to a party .

she should have watched some dvd etc at home unreasonable to child and the others too

Hecate · 10/05/2008 20:58

So she brought a 5 yr old with a stomach upset to your party, wearing a nappy, with instructions not to feed him any of the lovely party food and she left so you'd have needed to deal with the dirty nappy and the humiliated child?

The woman is insane!

muggglewump · 10/05/2008 20:58

OMG I'm completely outraged at this woman. Who on earth would do that?

Unfitmother · 10/05/2008 20:59

YANBU

orangehead · 10/05/2008 20:59

if he had a tummy bug then how irresponsible. My ds had to wear nappies at four, for really bad diarrhea as he had a bowel diorder he now on medication which controls it. Are you sure he was poorly in tummy bug way? If so no way should she of took him

cupsoftea · 10/05/2008 20:59

he arrived late as had been having a nap so she must have woken him up.

Cheeky mare. It's very catching.

cupsoftea · 10/05/2008 21:00

I was quite shocked. Luckily he arrived just after the cake.

SmoothandWilkie · 10/05/2008 21:00

YANBU!

I am speechless and the stupidity AND the assumption that you would be OK clearing up any shit!

cupsoftea · 10/05/2008 21:01

It was a tummy bug as he doesn't usally wear nappies (if he had to wear nappies for other reasons I'd more than happy to deal with the situation)

lisad123 · 10/05/2008 21:01

I would have told her to sod off! Cheeky cow. I would be having serious words with her. How can anyone do that to a child and another parent!

cupsoftea · 10/05/2008 21:02

I had some antibacterial gel that I put on everyones hands at one point (after he'd had a wee in the garden!)

OP posts:
cupsoftea · 10/05/2008 21:03

It was a difficult situation as she just mentioned it & he'd run off to join in.

OP posts:
Ceolas · 10/05/2008 21:03

What a really weird and irresponsible thing to do!
