Boycotttjng US Products and Services

CovenOfCheeses · 24/02/2025 18:45

Several of my friends have started a local campaign to boycott all US made goods and services. I have also started to do so because of the attitudes of the President to the rule of law and international co-operation. I have stopped buying from Amazon and have deleted my social media accounts and stopped using US made products. I feel that a country that is so antagonistic toward us should not be supported by our cash.

My eldest daughter is gay and has been saving up with her friend to go to the Dinah Shore weekend in the US. I said I would contribute some cash but now feel reticent to do so. She argues that she is going to support the people who are being attacked by Donald Trump, but I think that we should not give money to a country (even though it was only 50%) who twice voted for a menace to international order and the rule of law. I feel that during apartheid, it was only due to the economic boycotts that the system ended. It hurt the people who were in the country who did not agree to the system, but the economic impact forced the system to change. I think that by making a stand and making the people aware of how their president in impacting the world. Am I being unreasonable in withholding cash for her trip?

But Zuckerberg is a Trump supporters. He is against fact checking on Facebook so why would he tell the facts himself? Has he actually proven his assertion? Surely if this has in fact happened there are documents to prove it?

I assume you’re not posting using an Apple product OP?

Are you going to refuse all US made medicines as well?

Not watch any American TV? Never see a Hollywood movie again? Eat in McDonalds or buy Cadbury’s chocolate?

It’s virtually impossible to avoid US products. They are used by all of us multiple times a day.

Also; not sure what on earth Jeff Bezos or Mark Zuckerberg have to do with the actions of the US government.

Let’s acknowledged that many people in the U.K. hates America anyway.
I would not be surprised when they are left to eat from their bins in the U.K..The government is currently destroying what is left and what they are thinking is to boycott the US. In the meantime the USA is not way near what the democrats and the left in here want us to believe. Trump is an asshole yes but delivering what he promised. He was elected democratically and for the American people to sort out in the next elections if they are very unhappy.

sleepwouldbenice · 02/03/2025 10:08

You just speak garbage, sorry rubbish

Once again, I believe you can do what you like domestically. I wouldn't say your democracy is as great as you think it is, but it's your country. You can also take your own decisions on the world stage of course

But it's the approach to what you are doing that disgusts me. Lying and bullying. It's pathetic. I could make comments about you'll be living in a dictatorship or communist country, but I can't be bothered any more. Enjoy your dome

Everything trump supporters say is a projection. Therefore if they are accusing FB of being pro democrat, pushing propaganda, you can bet your bottom dollar that is what is happening in reverse.

Half-naked woman on CBBC Operation Ouch! AIBU to feel it’s inappropriate to have “Dynamite”, who is a skimpily-dressed gladiator on a kids’ show? She appeared on a segment of the first episode of the new series flirting with the handsome twin Black doctors, Raph and Dan. It just seemed sexualised to me.

Sorry, I thought I put this on a new thread!

Sorry, I thought I put this on a new thread!

Have you thought of boycotting “Operation Ouch” until the producers make sure the women dress modestly? Maybe not show too much ankle?

That's that, then.

sleepwouldbenice · 04/03/2025 00:21

After his latest move I am joining you in the boycott OP

He's just bullying to get the minerals

Makes me sick to the stomach

I don't care who laughs or criticises what I do. Its better than nothing

Don't support a trade deal either. I will enjoy the tariffs impacting their voters

OneLemonDog · 04/03/2025 00:22

New polling out of Canada showing 2/3rds of Canadians buying fewer US products.

I imagine that number will increase with tariffs now confirmed to be coming into effect tomorrow.

NetballHoop · 04/03/2025 09:46

Canadians are getting organised: https://www.reddit.com/r/BuyCanadian/

I'm trying to cut out any US (not American as that covers the entire continent) products. Google has gone and I'm now using Qwant (https://www.qwant.com/?l=en) which is French based even though it does use data from Bing. At least ad revenue stays away from the US.

Qwant

Fast, reliable answers and still in trust: Qwant does not store your search data, does not sell your personal data and is hosted in Europe.

The CEO of the Jack Daniels company is upset with Canada. What a pity. It would be a shame if the Canadian boycott spread throughout the civilised world. I can't help, not being a whiskey drinker. And Budweiser sold here is pretty awful so I'm already not drinking that.

Whataboutery. I don't approve of either and expect most people on here would either, but this thread is about US boycotts.

You will make your life pretty difficult with this boycott but you do you. BTW have you actually had a conversation with people who live in the USA to understand why they voted the way they did? Just a thought.

Yes, I will do me. I am glad I have a conscience and stand for things I believe in.
