are sandpits horrendeously messy?
will dd just try and eat all the sand ?

The only thing i can say is we went on Holiday in Sept, and my ds was 13 mths, all he did was eat sand!

posieflump · 09/05/2008 22:21

will she stand up against the sandpit you biy her and play?

GregorSamsa · 09/05/2008 22:22

She will eat it. It's not nice in nappies (after going through the digestive system). Quite a laxative effect. Just wanted to share that.

brrrrmmmm · 09/05/2008 22:24

Get one you can close (like the turtle shapes) to keep cats out - if you supervise her and tell her not to eat the sand, she'll have great fun - it's one of the best toys you can get for summer I think! We've had nearly 3 years out of ours so far, with no loss of enthusiasm!

milkgoddessmakesthefinestmilk · 09/05/2008 22:24

oh no, don't say that!

pf what do you mean?
dd will be able to sit in but she can't stand yet.

will getting a sandpit be good practising for the holiday?

brrr mum i was thinking of getting the turtle one, or wooden ?

OP posts:
CocodeBear · 09/05/2008 22:27

Great idea.

Wooden one with a lid looks nicer than plastic turtle one.

ThursdayNext · 09/05/2008 22:27

We got one when DS was 12 months, strangely he didn't eat the sand. It's a great toy, if you can stand the sand in your house. Watch out for trousers with turn ups.

milkgoddessmakesthefinestmilk · 09/05/2008 22:29

well my mum was a clean freak, we where not allowed play dough [or plastercine as i think it was called back then !lol]

or to paint and certainly not sand!

she would of faintd at the thought of sand in the house.

so i don't want to be like that.

TeenyTinyTorya · 09/05/2008 22:31

Ds is 13 mths and just likes picking up and throwing things - he doesn't try to eat them. Loves playing in sand and bark chippings. I would get one, just supervise

posieflump · 09/05/2008 22:31

sory what I meant was we have an elc one that they dcs stand against and play with
they don't sit in it like you would at a park
this one

posieflump · 09/05/2008 22:32

as you can see from the picture they stand against it, not sit in it!

milkgoddessmakesthefinestmilk · 09/05/2008 22:34

pf, thanks, that is lovely, but i want to feel the sand between my toes too

one we can get in would be better for us 2

OP posts:
Renaissancewoman · 09/05/2008 22:34

she''ll love it - my 5 year old still goes in, every day at the minute. Sand is messy though and dees get in house. But it gives me time to read paper so well worth it!

posieflump · 09/05/2008 22:34

have you a link?
it sounds nice...

milkgoddessmakesthefinestmilk · 09/05/2008 22:36

pf who me?
do you want a wooden or turtle link?

sorry ive been drinking again !!

OP posts:
posieflump · 09/05/2008 22:37

a link for one you can get into as well!!
the warm weather has made us all mad!!

frasersmummy · 09/05/2008 22:39

we used to have a wooden sandpit with a lid on the ground. It was great when ds was just over a year and couldnt walk

The problem was that being wooden and at ground level it rotted during the first winter

we now have the sand and water table too .. much cleaner and much less destructable

LaComtesse · 09/05/2008 22:39

My dd had a boat shaped one for her first birthday -we put water in one and sand in the other. Yes, she did eat it!!

She still loves it and is 8 this year .

We have this one www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/3650543/Trail/searchtext%3ESANDPIT.htm,
I am huge snob about plasticky things in my garden, although they are much more practical really
I usually sit on the edge with a coffee, but I guess you could stick your feet in if you want to get sandy too

milkgoddessmakesthefinestmilk · 09/05/2008 22:41

pf, lol

here

ok i know ots small, but perhaps i could sit on the ledge?
lol

Get thee to argos, tis much cheaper and just the same

milkgoddessmakesthefinestmilk · 09/05/2008 22:43

lacomtesse is that boat one from argos ?

with wooden woodens are you supposed to put plastic sheeting underneath?

OP posts:
ThursdayNext · 09/05/2008 22:44

Ooh, on second thoughts, I like the wooden lid instead of the argos plastic one, although hasn't it got gaps? Wouldn't the sand get completely soaked when it rains?

ThursdayNext · 09/05/2008 22:45

Yes, still gets a bit mouldy round the edges though
