Are school likely to let me take my child out of school an hour early on the last day of half term?

Likely to be a problem? I'm trying to book flights but the school isn't open to ask them... Has anyone any experience of this?

I am a school attendance officer. Just tell the truth to the school office. The children will probably say something anyway as they will be excited.
if you are only taking a bit early it’s non issue and they will have an afternoon mark.
if your children have a good attendance such as over 95% nothing will be said. Go and enjoy your holiday .

If it's only an hour early, they'll have got their registration mark so won't affect attendance stats. Just let reception know and your DC so they are ready for you to collect. No need for lies about dentist appointments or temperatures.
