I know I'll be told I am being unreasonable.

But I feel this woman has not done anything morally wrong. To silently hold a sign that says this is not intimidating or harassing and could easily be ignored. I don't think we should arrest someone like this.

She deserves it - and did break the law, horrible woman. Don't like abortion? Then don't have one!

Farreleye · 19/02/2025 21:08

BloodyHellBob · 19/02/2025 18:16

She wasn’t charged for holding a sign, she was charged for breaching an exclusion zone. She broke the law.

This.

There are other ways she can offer support women if she's passionate about it.

Anyone who makes a woman feel worse on the day she is going for an abortion can rot in hell in my opinion. Throw away the key.

TravellingTartan · 19/02/2025 21:15

Horrible disgusting woman, I hope they throw the book at her.

Oh for goodness sake. Then your
disagreeing with me is literal violence

Do you understand that she breached the exclusion zone, and thus committed a crime, for which she deserved to be deprived of her liberty?

Have you anything to add to any of the points that have been made as to why she was arrested, and why she was in the wrong?

@TemporaryPosition do you have anything to add in this, at all?

very true words, we should be helping each other

BleeBlahBlue · 19/02/2025 21:39

I live very close to the QEUH and used to work there.

These people are disgusting and I'm glad she got arrested.

They knew they were breaking the law and still went ahead with it.

I'd love to know how many children they have personally adopted, how much they give annually to children's charities and, the all important question, would they force their 13 year old daughter to go ahead with a pregnancy that was caused by rape by their father/brother/grandfather. Cos in real life the answer to that is always no, no matter how these hypocrites try and deny it.

BlueSilverCats · 19/02/2025 21:47

She wasn't allowed to hold a sign in that area. That’s why she was arrested. It is a crime, the morality of it is irrelevant.

I made my opinion clear in my first post. I think there are more pressing matters the police could be focused on.

Could you give an example of more pressing?

Policing an exclusion zone is good use of resources in this case. It's actually really impressive in this case for me. The threat levels can be quite something from individuals like this lady.

Threat of what?

@TemporaryPosition

What would you say if I stood silently outside a nursery that accepts infants/babies holding a sign that says "babies deserve to be at home with their mummies"?

I have to tolerate being confronted with views I don't like all the time. I cope.

Glad to hear rape prosecutions are at a more satisfactory level

Threat of what?

Judgement
Being made to feel guilty about a medical procedure
Escalation to abuse and/or aggression
Of feeling unprotected when in a really vulnerable situation

That’s why exclusion zones are there. To protect women, girls and the staff at clinics.

BlueSilverCats · 19/02/2025 22:17

Here's the thing . You want to be anti abortion great! Don't have one. Be anti abortion. Just do it (aaaaaaall the way) over there. 🔜

Wishyouwerehere50 · 19/02/2025 22:18

TemporaryPosition · 19/02/2025 22:09

Threat of what?

Exclusion zones are by definition there to manage behaviour causing harassment alarm and distress. So behaviour that illicits that, well that is threatening.

The level and exact type of threat can range from low to severe psychological distress ( dependant upon the targets emotional state at the time and what the menace in these zones is espousing ).

The threat could go even further to significant psychological and even physical harm to staff. We are talking stalking, death threats and hey even attempts on life.

Pro life people who think it's ok to intimidate like this fall into the category of absolute menace with the potential to threaten on all levels. I'd guess that people engaging in this awful intimidating behaviour are highly likely personality disordered and I'm not comfortable with the threat these nutjobs pose full stop.

TemporaryPosition · 19/02/2025 22:12

I have to tolerate being confronted with views I don't like all the time. I cope.

Then I'm guessing you don't have to deal with differing views which could affect you personally by harming your health, your safety, or your life.

This is not just a difference of opinion. These people have views which, if enforced, will harm women, and could actually kill them.

Someone telling you that they approve of abortion won't harm you. That's the difference.

TemporaryPosition · 19/02/2025 21:51

I made my opinion clear in my first post. I think there are more pressing matters the police could be focused on.

More pressing matters than people blatantly breaking the law. That's kind of exactly what they're there for

And don't go saying they should be catching murderers or rapists because that's not the remit of those officers

YesIReallyDidOK · 19/02/2025 22:22

TemporaryPosition · 19/02/2025 22:14

Could you give an example of more pressing?

Glad to hear rape prosecutions are at a more satisfactory level

What if I told you that both issues can be important and deserve adequate policing?

Whotenanny · 19/02/2025 22:22

I'm with you, OP. I think her sign was pretty clear, actually.

Returni · 19/02/2025 22:23

Are their charities for people being coerced into abortions and support to continue with a pregnancy? I think people like this women should funnel their energy into that and raise awareness for it.

YesIReallyDidOK · 19/02/2025 22:24

TemporaryPosition · 19/02/2025 22:09

Threat of what?

Genuine question: Are you ok with causing additional trauma to a woman already undergoing trauma, because you don't approve of her choices?

SmileEachDay · 19/02/2025 22:24

Whotenanny · 19/02/2025 22:22

I'm with you, OP. I think her sign was pretty clear, actually.

Yep. It was.

It was clearly in an exclusion zone and therefore was clearly illegal.
