AIBU to ask if you got a pay rise and how much it was?

The ONS reported earlier that the average wage has risen by 5.9% in the last quarter of last year compared to the year prior. Wage growth was apparently highest in the private sector, slightly lower in the public sector. At the same time, there seems to be a rise in unemployment in some sectors, reduced job vacancies and lots of reports that the job market is tough. I wonder how much of this is due to the large rises in the NMW and state pensions as I've not seen such large rises amongst friend/family except those at the bottom of the income spectrum.
I'm self employed and haven't increased my rates for a couple of years so obviously had no pay rise.
Can I ask whether you had a pay rise+/- bonus and what percentage increase it was? No need to state your salary.

My partner works at a big 4 bank and got 2.5 pc bonus and a large (5 fig) lump sum bonus, plus shares. I work for an accountancy firm and nothing so far.

MrsEG · 18/02/2025 13:51

2%.

2.5%

Local government so 2.5% last year. Always lower than the private sector and other areas of the public sector :(

Itsjustnotthevibe · 18/02/2025 14:14

I work at a university so we got a col rise which I think was 2.5%. My husband works for a private IT firm and got 10%.

Wow! Are you happy to say what he does/ his job title? I have little understanding of the finance sector

We get ours in April each year - we already know its going to be 0% - our increase is on hold this year for at least 6 months. Likely not going to happen and it wont be backdated.
Average we usually get 2-3% each year before that.

EmmaStone · 18/02/2025 14:23

Our company started an annual payrise policy in May 2024, previously everyone had to beg for an increase on the anniversary of their start date (quite a lot of inconsistenmcy across the company!). So last year was 4%, but was a bit of a catch up, as for the majority, there hadn't really been anything previously. This year, we won't be able to do more than 2.2% maximum. Private sector.

My take home pay has been drastically undervalued for many years.

Exactly this for me too.

A snapshot of wage rises on here is never going to tell you anything useful.

You'd be better looking at increasing your rates, reducing costs or changing your offering to see if you can increase your income that way.

People have got so used to seeing increased prices, that they don't always question them any more.

NMW has increased by around a third in last 3/4 years, so that's a good benchmark for how much your prices should have increased.

Loveduppenguin · 18/02/2025 14:35

4.5% and an 6% bonus but I’m getting a promotion too so I’ll go up another 25% next month.

WorkCleanRepeat · 18/02/2025 14:36

5% - Public sector

NowStartAgain · 18/02/2025 14:37

2.2%, it’s low but better than nothing or losing my job. It’s tough for many businesses at the moment!

ComtesseDeSpair · 18/02/2025 14:38

5% cost of living increase. But there’s also going to be a Q2 group-wide review of roles and responsibilities which will come with associated promotions and large pay rises for most of us, with the plan being that many roles which become vacant through the year when people resign voluntarily won’t be replaced one-for-one but responsibilities spread across other areas of the business.

Gazelda · 18/02/2025 14:38

0%. Same as last year. Third sector.

Milodon · 18/02/2025 14:38

Hearing about my pay rise next week but I’m expecting about 4%. The upper limit for where I am against our pay bands is 7.5% and I’m lazy a medium performer.

Bonus was 9.5%.

EveryDayisFriday · 18/02/2025 14:39

5% in Dec. It's been 18m before the last payrise.

Flamingo68 · 18/02/2025 14:40

NHS…think we got 5.5%

Babyenroute · 18/02/2025 14:40

10% but also got promoted so probably skews the polling a bit as not just true pay rise

Ariela · 18/02/2025 14:41

Private sector. We got 7%, but the company has done very well. Is only a small company, and I think they are looking to retain staff in order to continue progress. We are a slim team, nobody surplus to requirements, and they are investing to keep costs down too.. As opposed to the owners taking out ££

HerbertVonDoodlebug · 18/02/2025 14:43

Public sector
4.4%
1% immediately wiped out by increased pension contributions
The rest wiped out by massive increases in water and energy bills and council tax!
