Caroline Flack - is it now time to just leave the poor woman to rest in peace?

Sorry, but I think the new TV documentary is not in the best interests of anyone. It’s demeaning to Caroline’s memory, not helping anyone, least of all her mum. I am tired of talking heads popping up talking about Caroline, please just let her rest in peace. She didn't want things made public when she was alive, and I don't think she would like this.

Lots of people don't believe that she was the victim in this case. Yabu

You can't assault your boyfriend then hope it will all go away quietly!

Barleysugar86 · 17/02/2025 11:37

Agreed, it has been covered, documentaries are there if anyone wants to see them. I felt the same way about the titanic sub when I saw there was a new one of those coming up- no need.

Completely agree. It’s sad that she died, of course, but when I think of her, it’s as an abuser.

The whole thing was so troubling, and the amount of people that seemed to forget and then paint her as the victim afterwards is shocking. “#BeKind” to victims of abuse, not abusers.

Snowmanscarf · 17/02/2025 12:17

You’re asking people to leave her in peace and then start a thread about her?

Electricfeels · 17/02/2025 12:21

I always think the reaction to everything that happened with Caroline Flack would be very different if the genders were reversed. If a male celebrity had hit his partner over the head while she was sleeping, would he have so many people in his corner?

Snoken · 17/02/2025 12:38

@Electricfeels I am not sure. If we look at Liam Payne instead he was also an abuser, especially towards his ex-girlfiend, he bought women to bring to his hotel room after his girlfriend left, he violently attacked hotel staff etc but people don't seem to want to talk about that so much. It's more poor Liam for being surrounded by bad people. He was aboslutely horrendous towards his ex and her family.

Yes, if she'd been a man, no one would have an ounce of sympathy for her.

Ah yes, that's true actually.

Dontlletmedownbruce · 17/02/2025 12:47

I know almost nothing about the woman but now I'm googling her so what you've done here @HarrietMartineau is drum up public interest in her.

I think there would have been, actually; lots of cries about suicide being a leading cause of death in males and hashtags #openup or whatever.

CF was undoubtedly a troubled woman in many ways. The narrative around her death has definitely shifted and changed and probably will continue to do so.

TheLionandAlbert · 17/02/2025 12:50

Her mum’s behind it, so I guess she thinks there’s more to be said. It would be pretty much forgotten about if it wasn’t for her mum.

No doubt it’ll be an opportunity for Laura Whitmore to get some more publicity for herself.

KrisAkabusi · 17/02/2025 12:51

If I beat my partner I wouldn't want it made public either!

Seen she (Whitmore) published messages between her and Flack a few days ago.

I’m sure that also brought some attention she desperately craves.

Doloresparton · 17/02/2025 13:02

I never knew anything about Caroline Flack until she assaulted her dp.
You don’t get a free pass at dv just because you’re a woman.

I can understand her dm finding it really hard and she seems to blame the police. However if CF did hit her dp she was guilty of a crime, I don’t think a caution is good enough for unprovoked assault.

All this you have mentioned is not proven. They are just accusations at this stage and we’ll obviously never know if they’re true or not.

MyPurpleHeart · 17/02/2025 13:18

She was due in court for hitting her DP over the head with a lamp while he was sleeping. The pictures of the bed showed a sizeable amount of blood on the sheets

He didn't want to press charges but the police did anyway. She was an abuser, no matter how troubled she was, and she committed suicide to escape the judicial process. People say the media bullied her to death but what came before shouldn't be forgotten.

Startinganew32 · 17/02/2025 13:19

She was obviously deeply troubled and her repeated “relationships” with men over a decade younger than her demonstrated that. Her mum is angry that her ex that she assaulted moved on and that CF’s friends are still friends with his new girlfriend. But I don’t think anyone ever thought the relationship was real - maybe CF did but to everyone else he was just using her for money and fame and it was never going to go anywhere. Plus she did assault him quite seriously so why the hell should he sit around mourning? Of course he was going to move on.
I also think it’s the lowest of the low for her mum to blame her friends for leaving her for a brief period. Why didn’t her mum come and live with her 24/7 if she was so concerned about her?

I'm pretty sure the escorts and hotel staff attacks are though. There is video evidence of it and they are all witnesses. I also don't see why his ex's parents would make up stories about him sending them naked pictures of their daughter and harrassing them for years. There is proof of that too but I guess they could have been forged.

I kind of disagree - CF’s Mum has made clear that she doesn’t like Laura Whitmore after she got the Love Island hosting gig (after CF was dropped…for attacking her boyfriend) so I feel like this was a bit of self preservation to say, actually Caroline supported me hosting. She’s also not taking part in the documentary.

I completely agree she needs to be left - her mum needs to address her grief because it can’t be good for her but ultimately it is quite a complex case. The police weren’t wrong to pursue charges for an assault and the whole Be Kind thing that sprung up after her death always felt incredibly misplaced to me. Accountability is not unkindness. It’s desperately sad that she felt driven to a position of suicide but she needs to be left to rest in peace.

I'm usually pretty ambivalent about "celebs" but Whitmore is one of the few I cannot stand (and the thread about her on the other forum that nobody from here reads) is illuminating.

Don't believe for a second that she just happened to find those messages the day before Caroline's anniversary either.

ETA: Everything @Penguinmouse said is spot on IMO.

Her boyfriend’s comment at the time:

Posting to his Instagram story alongside the photograph in question, Lewis exclaimed: “Bt this blood isn’t mine and I didn’t get hit over the head with a lamp, can everyone stop now…. She is f*ing harmless and the most amazing person I have ever met.”

Another observer said the blood was mostly from Caroline’s injury after she smashed a glass and she was bleeding quite a lot from that.

I'm not sure about this. Geoffrey Boycott springs to mind. Enjoyed a lucrative commentating career after being convicted of assaulting his girlfriend. Also Ant McPartlin (not the same thing, but his drink driving conviction hasn't hurt his career at all, has it?)
