Work friend blocked me on WhatsApp. Would you ask why?

JuvenileBigfoot · 09/02/2025 18:05

I messaged a work friend yesterday with a question. She messaged back. All fine.

Today I noticed she's blocked me.

Do I ask why when I see her on Tuesday? Or just assume she has her reasons and go on as normal?

I'm baffled!

Was it a work question? Maybe she blocked you as she doesn't want her personal phone being used for work questions?

Mbluebird · 09/02/2025 18:07

Shr Might have removed WhatsApp or worried about discussing work issues on WhatsApp???

Agree with this. Maybe she likes to keep her work and personal life separate and if she responds to one person/question it might keep happening

Fuzziduck · 09/02/2025 18:08

Go on as normal.

Dolphinnoises · 09/02/2025 18:09

Because you sent her work questions on a weekend?

Rugbyrover · 09/02/2025 18:09

You messaged her on a Saturday?

Ifeelabnormal · 09/02/2025 18:10

Overstepped a boundary I imagine. I'd probably be worried that it would open a can of worm if a colleague texted at a weekend.

I mean my work has no issues with messsaging people out of hours and I couldn’t get too excited about this but some people are pretty hardline about this.

She probably doesn’t want work questions on a personal number. I would just leave it.

This, I archive my work WhatsApp chat on weekends and days off, I don’t want work stuff on my phone during my unpaid time!

lnks · 09/02/2025 18:12

Was she working yesterday or did you message her on her day off?

ThatsNotMyTeen · 09/02/2025 18:13

How can you tell if someone has blocked you?

OP says it’s a friend rather than a colleague and also doesn’t say it was about work. Even so, I can’t imagine I would block someone for the crime of messaging on a weekend. I might mute them and/or not reply

OP I would probably not say anything but based on what you posted here I would also find it odd

Trickabrick · 09/02/2025 18:13

Is it normal to message work related questions on a personal device (assuming that’s what it is) on a weekend in your place of work? If not, she’s just protecting her boundaries in a non-confrontational way so there’s no way I’d ask her about it.

NiftyKoala · 09/02/2025 18:13

I do this when people message me on my off time. People who are just messaging me about work, what the should do if pc isn't working or similar. I already give my job so much my off time is off limits.

PrincessAnne5Eva · 09/02/2025 18:14

I'd wait to see if she unblocks you on Monday. Maybe she's just trying to get some quiet time away from work on her days off.

It makes me laugh the assumptions on here that everyone works Monday to Friday 9-5

JuvenileBigfoot · 09/02/2025 18:22

Sorry, to clarify it wasn't a work question and we've messaged on WhatsApp lots of times in the evenings. We also speak as friends in work.

Her picture disappeared so I send a message to see if I was blocked and it didn't go through.

I’d leave it. If it was by accident she’ll realise and re-instate next time she tries to message. If it was deliberate, well, it’ll be awkward and she’ll probably just make something up.

Spot on, it's not a 9-5. We were both off work at the time though.

I agree

SpringBunnyHopHop · 09/02/2025 18:30

I wouldn’t say anything. It’s clear she doesn’t want to message you outside of work.

I have seen a few threads from people being texted by colleagues outside of work and they rarely like it.

Carrotstick123 · 09/02/2025 18:31

Has she not just deleted the app?

We swapped numbers ages ago and have messaged outside of work numerous times.

In fact, we don't have our phones when we're in work so we ONLY message outside of work.

What I asked her wasn't work related, in fact was checking something for her benifit.

Why are you prying by asking none work related questions?
