Would you rather do a load of laundry every few days or 2-4 in a row over a day- or two

Just having this discussion with my mum.

She's the type to always want an empty laundry basket and it bothers her to have a full one / or anything in it really.

I let it build up and do it all over the weekend. It would stress me out to be constantly doing laundry / putting away laundry.

We have enough clothes to do this and I use a dryer. For example this weekend, I've done 4 loads of laundry. My mum would have done that during the week. It makes no sense to me because I like to have all my DD's school uniform clean for the week ahead.

I understand this is mad but I've managed to convince myself it uses more electricity to do it all on one day so I do it through the week.

I'm tempted to pass this madness on to my daughter so she can boldly pronounce it as fact when she starts uni. Every halls needs a good nonsense debate.

I do 2-3 loads a day Tuesday to Saturday. 4-5 loads every Monday (bedding). Sunday is my only laundry free day.

All in one go on a Sunday. Fold and put away for the week ahead. Only exception is maybe if we have nice weather and I will pop a washing on midweek to get it hung out.

I always do towels on a Wednesday (my day off) and DP always WFH on a Friday and does the bedding. I generally do a load of handwashing once a week, then spin it in the machine, and probably two general loads.

We do have a dryer, but I absolutely can’t wait for line-drying weather.

I do it mostly over the weekend because of school uniforms - so this weekend I've done 4 loads which included bedding

I'll probably just do one load during the week to keep on top of it!

It's better to do big loads because you use less water and electricity then - your mum must be constantly doing small loads which is a waste of water

Depends on whether I can dry it! I do a few on a Monday, then 1 each day through the week and never on a weekend

To put a wash on or to not put a wash on.

That is the eternal question.

Eenameenadeeka · 10/02/2025 01:21

I do at least one every day. But we have 4 children, so if I left it for the weekend I'd spend the whole weekend in the laundry haha

I have to spread it and plan a bit in order to dry the clothes. I've never known any different but it is all a lot simpler in a dry summer.
