We cannot continue taking on immigrants indefinitely

I'll probably be shot down for saying this but Immigration should be strictly controlled or we'll all become significantly disadvantaged. While international law doesn't require asylum seekers to stay in the first safe country they reach, some governments argue they should. There is a belief that the UK has a fairer asylum process, more legal protections, and better opportunities for work and education compared to other countries. While the reality may be different, word of mouth and social media often spread the idea that the UK is a good place to seek asylum. Our reputation as a desirable asylum destination is straining social services, housing, and the asylum system. The NHS and schools face increased pressure, housing shortages worsen, and asylum backlogs lead to long waits and high costs. Public frustration is growing, fueling political divisions. The system is unsustainable due to financial burdens, fairness concerns, and security risks.

@KaylaLS - yes agree. What shouldn't be forgotten when the Conservatives go on about migration is they thought dog walkers is something we needed to obtain internationally

They are totally incompetent

I think we just have to be way tougher. We're seen as being a soft touch, because we are. Our immigration system is in disarray. It takes years for decisions to be made. We allow people to stay here, even when their petition fails. We allow appeal after appeal until even the least deserving find some way to stay. We have no ID cards and a thriving underground economy. And people traffickers know this and so do migrants. They know damn well that if they can just get here to the UK, their chances of ever being removed are miniscule. It's pathetic. We are pathetic. And they know it.

Have you been watching ch4

It may or may not change your view

I thought some posters might be very surprised at the jobs which allow you entry to the UK. Dog walkers, anyone?

To be fair that's not as mad as importing homeless people from the EU to sell the Big Issue. Two-thirds of Big Issue sellers are Eastern European - did we have a shortage of skilled homeless people?

We don't even take our fair share of asylum seekers.

Im not sure what you mean by our fair share. As others have clearly stated some countries may take in more, but it's important to consider factors like our population size, economic capacity, and existing commitments and the concerns about the strain on public services like the NHS, housing and education, as well as downward pressure on wages in certain sectors.

OP doesn't seem to know there is a difference between the two. 😂

Immigrants are people who move to another country to live. Asylum seekers are a specific group of immigrants who MAY have fled persecution, war, or violence and are seeking legal protection in another country. That's the difference between the two.

We were in A&E a couple of weeks ago and I'm pretty confident no-one else there a) actually needed to be there and b) was born outside the UK. I'm not sure it's asylum seekers bringing the NHS to its knees, I think it might be stupid people.

You must really get in touch with whoever runs the medical world and tell them that you have a, as yet untapped, ability to be able to diagnose a person just by looking at them.

This will be a game changer!

No more need for expensive scans and tests-just you with your X ray eyes and amazing ability to then say exactly what the matter is.

Whatever you are doing, stop it now and ring the Head of the World Health Organisation.

Your abilities are indeed marvellous news and must no longer be hidden under a bushel.
