  • Was it fun?
  • Did you enjoy it?
  • What should I do do get ready?
  • Did it hurt?
  • Would you do it again?
  • Were you solo? with a partner? or a group?
  • Any things that surprised you about it?

A close friend of mine had arrangments, now her DH can't make it due to some work issues. So 7 days from now I'll be with her ...and it will be my first time to SKI.

I'm fit, go running 2x times a week, used to play a lot of sports, just never had the opportunity to try ski. So I expect fitness should be OK?

My friend has only skied twice before, so she classifies herself a biginners. Resort looks really nice, with some beginner areas.

Any advice appreciated!

If you can’t even write the word, you shouldn’t be doing it.

TheSeaOfTranquility · 08/02/2025 12:25

I thought it was quite funny and creatively done! It certainly got my attention, and I'd never normally click on a thread about skiing!

Oblomov25 · 08/02/2025 12:42

Eh?
Hmm

TheSeaOfTranquility · 08/02/2025 12:45

But in answer to your questions...

  1. sometimes
  2. not really. Not enough to go again.
  3. get the warmest ski socks and gloves you can find
  4. I found the boots very uncomfortable 5 ) no thank you
  5. in a group
  6. how much I loved skiing when it went right...it really is like nothing else when you're whizzing down the piste with the sun sparkling on the snow ...but unfortunately for me these times were outweighed by how much I hated being cold, scared and uncomfortable
MaltipooMama · 08/02/2025 13:11

Well that took me a good couple of read-throughs to realise what the hell was going on 😂

I only went skiing once but have done dry slopes a good few times (nothing like the real thing and nowhere near as fun!) I had a blast though, my partner has been multiple times and he loves it. It's on the list as one of the first things we'll take our children to do when they're old enough!

Blueuggboots · 08/02/2025 13:20

I hated it. It was cold, I detested the uncontrolled feeling of being skis as I petrified of steep slopes.
After 2 days I stopped and just read a book.

TheWiresAreInTheAirNow · 08/02/2025 13:23

Edited.
Read it properly now.

Still do not deep appropriate given recent events. Ask the question straightforwardly.

Blueuggboots · 08/02/2025 13:23

Oh, and it was slippier under foot than I'd imagined, even when walking around resort.
Wear lots of layers and be prepared to be freezing cold.

Can you tell I didn't like it?!

MelisandeLongfield · 08/02/2025 13:23

I'm afraid that I'm still a virgin at 50 so I can't help 😆

TheLargestToblerone · 08/02/2025 13:25

Wear protection.

Pretty cringe! There are loads of posts of advice for first-time or beginner skivers on here - try a search. The advice doesn't age quickly.

And how many posts do you think there for “my husband’s a lazy knob” and “I think he’s cheating” that posters could refer to rather than starting a new one?

Possibly the most cringe comment you can make on a fucking forum is to tell people not to post 🙄

Have a lovely day

Mine’s obviously going better than yours as I don’t feel the need to shit on people. Hope things perk up a bit for you x
