I don't mind them celebrating in the slightest - I just find it hilarious that they all need to go out and pat the father on the back when they weren't the ones that gave birth!

odd, isn't it!

bluenosesaint · 07/05/2008 22:06

Ah but they have now filled a pram and have proved their manhood - are you begrudging them their finest hour???

pardon · 07/05/2008 22:08

that's what's so great! they may as well get it out and say look what i did!

PersephoneSnape · 07/05/2008 22:11

if anyone needs a stiff drink after all that birthing.

pardon · 07/05/2008 22:14

Ha! Exactly PS!

DirtySexyMummy · 07/05/2008 22:18

But they do deserve to be congratulated, no?

QuintessentialShadows · 07/05/2008 22:20

Well, my dh for sure needed congratulating, at least not for putting out with me for 9 months of hormonal hell hillarity.

pardon · 07/05/2008 22:20

Oh definitely don't get me wrong I think they should celebrate, it's just all the lads saying 'we must go out - he really deserves a drink after that'!

Awww, pardon, lighten up girl.

ChocolateRockingHorse · 07/05/2008 22:22

But it's just an age-old excuse to get pissed, that's all it really is

DH went out last Sat to wet the heads of his newborn twin grandsons so obviously had to get doubly pissed!!! Perfectly reasonable of course!!

pardon · 07/05/2008 22:23

Actually QS put it like that DH probably deserved a knighthood

OP posts:
pardon · 07/05/2008 22:25

No getme it's not that i mind it's just that they feel like it's so deserved! As they leave DW at home to sort the kids out...!

OP posts:

loving the twins excuse

getmeouttahere · 07/05/2008 22:31

Personally I think its a nice tradition. A bit like my DH's annual golf trip with his mates.

The daft thing is, he doesn't play golf AT ALL for the rest of the year so is just an excuse for a piss-up

Elasticwoman · 07/05/2008 22:37

Lol at dads sharpening their babies' heads. With a massive whetstone perhaps?

Sorry. V bad form to mention other people's spelling mistakes but couldn't resist.

pardon · 07/05/2008 22:39

see with our lot it's just a complete excuse for a piss up. when dh came back to the hospital after his head whetting after dd1 i thought he might be taken away by social services he looked that rough

OP posts:
pardon · 07/05/2008 22:43

I actually thought that was the correct spelling in this instance. Any pedants around?

OP posts:
ChocolateRockingHorse · 07/05/2008 22:44

Well it's referring to "wet" as in "wet with water" so wouldn't imagine it could be anything but wet really..

ChocolateRockingHorse · 07/05/2008 22:45

Will check..

pardon · 07/05/2008 22:48

Am intrigued now - thought there was some old fashioned thing with it

OP posts:
ChocolateRockingHorse · 07/05/2008 22:49

Wiki doesn't have it!

But it's definitely "wetting".

Google asked me "do you mean wetting?" And there are no references to "whetting".

pointydog · 07/05/2008 22:52

lol @ head whetting. That's why I'm pointy

Elasticwoman · 07/05/2008 22:53

Pardon, how can you ask if there are any pedants around when I've already been on!

If you don't believe me, look it up in the dictionary.

chunkychips · 07/05/2008 22:55

I agree pardon, it's a great excuse for a piss up. At least mine could've waited until the pain had subsided. Not sure they'd be too keen on running to the pub if they'd been rent asunder.

ChocolateRockingHorse · 07/05/2008 22:59

I do think watching the person you love most in the world in that kind of pain and working that hard must be fairly stressful I have to say.. think I'd need a drink after.
