To expect my son to wash his hands when he gets in?

Ds 16yo has been at work or college, come home on public transport.

Aibu to expect him to wash his hands upon arriving home before he starts touching everything especially the fridge, food, cups etc. he will walk straight in and start going in the fridge making a drink not washing his hands.

When I ask him he shouts at me and calls me a germ phobe.

Everyone else in the house manages to wash their hands when they get in.

What about the dogs? Do they have to kean their paws before walking around the house?🐩

@VoodooRajin

lots of people wipe their dogs paws when they’ve been out for a walk .

@Whyareyousoannoying im amazed at all the folk who wouldn’t wash there hands when they come in from a day at work/at the shops/school etc. Surely it’s common sense and decent hygiene? Hardly needing all these ‘germ phobic comments’.

CrestWhite · 29/01/2025 17:16

I wash my hands regularly when using shared things because I know other people have lower standards to cleanliness than I.

I take the same approach in my house.

Does everyone disinfect their phone when they come home

QuickDraining · 29/01/2025 18:09

Weirdly having a pet is meant to improve health. That's why my kids are forced to french kiss the dog shortly after they have walked Stanley and he has wolfed down a shit truffle in the park. None of us have ever had so much of a sniffle...

I'm finding it hard to believe all of these people who claim they've never in their whole life had so much as a sniffle.

I can't think of a single person I've ever known who hasn't had a cold even once.

What about the kitty cats?

Sounds suspiciously like the type of people who go into work or visit people full of illness spreading it everywhere but insisting that they are not ill.

Sounds suspiciously like someone obsessed with germs claimng they're not a germaphobe

If that's what you want to think 😊

I keep my hands permanently in a bag of soapy water. You can't be too careful.

Purinea · 29/01/2025 21:50

People saying things like oh well do you wipe your phone?!
like that’s a gotcha. Erm yes!! You actually should disinfect your phone sometimes, you mingers 😂 I will be weary next time someone hands me their phone to take a photo I guess.

are you all cleaning your houses? or would that make you germaphobes too. I can’t work out where the line is for people between basic hygiene and germaphobe, if washing your hands before you prepare food is in the germaphobe realm.
this is why I don’t eat food other people make.

We never wash our hands when coming home from school and work, not unless they look or feel particularly dirty.
We wash our hands when going to the toilet, before and drugging food prep, each morning/night, etc but not just when we get home.

ThePoshUns · 30/01/2025 07:49

Those of you who wash their hands when they come in, give it a try and have a look at the water when you rinse. It might change your mind.
Even if your hands don't look dirty you'll be surprised how grubby they actually are.
Plus it's nice to have freshly washed skin.

There are some right dirty mingers on this thread. No wonder so many people are ill with viruses at the moment

Permanently? You minger. I take a five minute break each day to replace the bag with a new one.
