If you were faced with the choice between saving your partner or a stranger's baby, what would you do?

I'd save my partner over anyone's baby, to be honest, not just a stranger's baby.

I'd save my partner over any other adult in my life, too.

During covid our 13yr old had similar questions from school. We had some amazing debates. One was your relative (whichever ie mother, sister etc as aimed at young people) etc vs a single railway worker, discuss, then to further the discussion it was a train full of families .

There's no 'correct' answer everyone's situation/ decision will be different. Both ne and DH said we'd be mortified if someone saved us rather than many other people, esp where chikdren /babies were involved, but that wouldn't be us making the decision.

I can't believe (or rather would rather not believe) that no one here thought of Sophies Choice as this thread unfolded.

I'd save my husband but would feel bad for the baby, if that redeems me any....

It depends entirely on the situation.....

Being asked to choose "who lives who dies" where the outcome is an absolutely given then I'd save my DH all day long.

Faced with an on the spot act now type situation like fire or drowning I think I would reactively grab the baby first without really thinking about it..... something in our subconscious would be saying "there's a chance DH can get himself out" whereas a baby absolutely can't save itself.

Don't have a partner. But I'd save the baby over my best friend. Because if I didn't 1)I'd hate myself so much I'd end up killing myself; 2)she's a nice person so she'd never forgive me for letting the baby die.

I'd save the baby.

I can't say why, it's just an irrational thing and probably a species survival programming.

Baby, every single time. As a mother, I would hope someone chose my baby too
