Which fancy hotel would you have a micro wedding at in the UK?

i am engaged and decided I really don’t want to have a big wedding. I like weddings but most weddings to me are nothing spectacular especially when you find out how much they cost per head.

Fiance and I are also the last siblings in our families to get married so the novelty is kind of gone.

Fiance and I initially assumed we would do something small abroad with our siblings and parents. But I find the concept of being married in a country which I don’t know at all and where I don’t speak the language really daunting. The idea of running around the Tuscan countryside trying to find a place that sells a specific object really unappealing.

I was hoping to book my family rooms at a big country house and share a sort of mini break with food and activities.

Cliveden is at the top of my list but I just think there must be better value for money elsewhere.

What would you do if you were having my style of wedding?

Luton Hoo is lovely with a gorgeous chapel.

The loveliest micro-wedding I went to was at the Manoir aux Quat'Saisons in Oxfordshire

brochure link

Although the hotel has 32 bedrooms so there would be other people there, they have some really lovely intimate spaces for ceremony and private dining for up to 14 people and the food is spectacular. Plenty of activities around there too.

Brighton Grand

The Horn of Plenty near Tavistock.

SparklingSpa · 26/01/2025 14:38

Ashdown Park Hotel.

imustbeanidiot · 26/01/2025 14:44

Prestonfield House, Edinburgh.

The hotel is one of a kind and they will treat you like royalty, best staff ever.
They'll organize whatever activities you need.

And you can pop into the city center for a visit.

So is your budget around 20k?

The Elvetham Hotel in Fleet, Hampshire. Beautiful. Where Henry VIII proposed to Jane Seymour. Gorgeous grounds. Completely idyllic inside and out. Also licensed for weddings inside and out. Coincidentally where the most recent MAFS UK was shot.

Seconded.

The Four Seasons isn't far away either, I don't know if they do weddings there.

I was also going to edit to mention Tylney Hall in the same area and then noticed someone else had suggested it.

Also Bovey Castle in Devon might be worth a look.

Yeah I had always anticipated we would have a normal wedding so have budgeted for that. We could go higher but I’d obviously prefer to keep it a affordable as possible

Also Llanerch Vineyard near Cardiff. I think Denbies at Dorking might do weddings as well.

Edited again - someone I know got married at Greyfriars vineyard near Guildford.

Has anyone stayed at The Newt some online seem to suggest it is a bit style over substance. And overpriced to boot

If you look at your messages I will talk you through The Newt x

SparklingSpa · 26/01/2025 15:05

I don’t think you need to spend £800/£1000 (The Newt, Cliveden) per room per night to get the clay pigeon, spa, country house experience.

The Swinton Estate which includes options for outdoor activities and includes a private ‘island’ https://www.swintonestate.com

Grander but with less activities, Grantley Hall. Glamour and sheer luxury.

Welcome to the Swinton Estate

Went to a lovely small wedding in The Ceilidh Place in Ullapool. Probably too far to travel though you can fly to Inverness. Food was outstanding and the dancing everything a good ceilidh should be!

Pinksmyfavoritecolour · 26/01/2025 15:17

Bovey castle in Devon is lovely and has a gorgeous spa.

Burgh island hotel would be very different also in Devon

Or ashdown park hotel on Ashdown forest in East Sussex

BrainFrog · 26/01/2025 15:18

The Douglas Hotel in Brodick (on Arran).

Bit of a trek for you, but Gleneagles would suit. It’s fabulous 🥰 I would definitely have a small wedding there.

Was going to say this.

been a while since I’ve been but the did the horse drawn carriage stuff as there’s an equestrian centre, plus golf, shooting, birds of prey etc.

ghislaine · 26/01/2025 15:22

If you’re in the SE then you can easily get to the Channel Islands from London or Southampton. I’d recommend either The Blond Hedgehog in Alderney or Stocks Hotel on Sark.

Princessfluffy · 26/01/2025 15:26

Skibo Castle?
Where Madonna & Guy got married?

Businessflake · 26/01/2025 15:28

Chewton Glen
The Four Seasons in Hampshire (probably widest range of activities I’ve seen)
Calcot

Have stayed at all of these and would be very happy to return. I also love Cliveden, such stunning grounds.

I’ve not been but I’ve heard great reviews of the Tawny in Staffordshire.
