Which fancy hotel would you have a micro wedding at in the UK?

i am engaged and decided I really don’t want to have a big wedding. I like weddings but most weddings to me are nothing spectacular especially when you find out how much they cost per head.

Fiance and I are also the last siblings in our families to get married so the novelty is kind of gone.

Fiance and I initially assumed we would do something small abroad with our siblings and parents. But I find the concept of being married in a country which I don’t know at all and where I don’t speak the language really daunting. The idea of running around the Tuscan countryside trying to find a place that sells a specific object really unappealing.

I was hoping to book my family rooms at a big country house and share a sort of mini break with food and activities.

Cliveden is at the top of my list but I just think there must be better value for money elsewhere.

What would you do if you were having my style of wedding?

Chewton Glen in the New Forest. Has a spa and lovely grounds, beach a 20 min walk away.

Gleneagles feels a bit like Cliveden to me - busy, golf course, lots of people around. But lovely sea view

We live a couple of miles from Gleneagles and I'd wholeheartedly recommend it.

I think the OP will be very disappointed if she goes there expecting a sea view though!

FirstsignsofSpring · 26/01/2025 14:04

Fischer's at Barlow is another one I'd recommend.

I am going to duck and run for cover.. I am not too fond of The Pig.

The Goring does this. Would be obviously not a countryside experience but they have lovely gardens.

Very small gardens though compared to somewhere in the country

Heckfield Place or Four Seasons Hampshire

Mylovelygreendress · 26/01/2025 14:12

Cromlix near Stirling

We got married at Bailbrook House in Bath. Absolutely no guests. They used to do a “just us” wedding package but I’m not sure they do anymore. It was amazing though. Highly recommend.

Bit of a trek for you, but Gleneagles would suit. It’s fabulous 🥰 I would definitely have a small wedding there.

Colleague gor married there - think 20 guests. They loved it, activities available (golf horse riding, spa etc), train from London stops at Gleneagles station, can drive up or flight to Edinburgh

Cynic17 · 26/01/2025 14:13

Well, I would choose Claridge's, but that is London.

If you want rural, how about Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons?

mum2jakie · 26/01/2025 14:16

Not sure I'd it's up market enough but a lovely location by Rudyard Lake in Staffordshire.

So far my faves are:
The Newt
Middleton Lodge
Babington House
Four Seasons Hampshire
Gleneagles (trekking up all together on the train sounds fun)

Another vote for Chewton Glen, you could stay in a tree house. Lovely location with a great spa, tennis courts, croquet, little golf course and the sea just a few minutes walk away.

Reori · 26/01/2025 14:20

Thanks all. Still googling all suggestions

Fairy hill in the gower, Swansea. Beautiful gardens. Amazing food. Small and intimate. Wild horses running across the moors on an evening is a sight I’ll never forget.
