Back in Feb 1983 I had a MASSIVE crush on a lad - I knew my mum wouldn’t like him even back then as he’s working class ! 😮 - and she was a snob!!

Anyway I’m pleased to confirm that we got to know each other, made a connection, and now in 2025 I’m pleased to say he’s the most important person in my life 😊 - my raison d’etre !!

we overcame the odds - I love my ‘Working Class Hero’ ❤️❤️

Just for context in February 1983 Kajagoogoo were no 1 with ‘Too Shy’.

So what were you doing in Feb 1983??!

I can’t believe that me, the shy, awkward unhappy girl in Feb 1983 - well my dream came true ! ❤️

I was studying for my O'levels....and wondering how I could get Simon Le Bon to marry me....

If you can cope with an extra Bon, I’d be happy to oblige 😁

I didn't exist - I was born 4 years later in February 1987.

My children were all born in the 2020s.....I realise how fucking old I am now 😅

Massive congratulations on your relationship xx

I don’t really get why you are posting this if you’ve been together since 1991?!

its in the title,

its in the title,

But it isn’t February 2025. None of the dates in the story are relevant today so just wondering why she has posted about this today.

Feb 83 I was 18, just starting my first ‘proper’ job with the Civil Service and 5 months into a relationship with a nice lad who was a lot of fun but neither of us expected it to last. All these years later we are still together and 1st Feb 94 I became Mum to our first child.

GretchenWienersHair · 26/01/2025 09:16

This is so lovely

I had just started secondary school and was dreaming about marrying George Michael. My periods had just started. I’m really surprised that you had a crush on someone older when you were primary age.

I had a crush on Emlyn Hughes when I was in Primary School… 😬

And you were dreaming about marrying George Michael the year after you left…

It was specifically Friday 11th 1983 I first clapped eyes on him - the proceeded to follow him and put little notes through his door.

i bet a teenage boy loved this from a 10 year old girl 😭😭🤣

I was 5 so most likely acting out scenes from TJ Hooker with the boy who lived on my estate.

In Feb 1983 I was mostly drawing five soldiers, cutting out pictures of religious figures with superlative skill, playing in the home corner, being proud of being able to tie my own tie and feeling insulted by my reception teacher calling me and the other reception kids 'babies' to differentiate us from the Y1 kids.

I saw Meatloaf on Top of the Pops singing Dead Ringer for Love and apparently told my mum that I wanted to be him.

Peri-menopause is doing its best to grant me that wish.

I was living in a very deprived area of a big city. In February 1983 I head that I’d got a scholarship to a grammar school in the next town. I was excited and terrified at the same time. It was the best thing that ever happened to me, and a life changer.

That’s fabulous 🙌

I wonder if you lived in Kent as I know someone who experienced this at exactly this time

In 1983 I was still in primary school and my crush were Paul Nicholas and John Travolta ha ha! However, I do have a similar happy love story…

I first met my now DP when I was 16, and we hung out in the same crowd. I liked him immediately and we got on so well, but I had a boyfriend (one of his mates). So nothing happened. Then my boyfriend and I split up, but by then he had a girlfriend…so nothing happened. I went on single for years, then met my ExH, and got married, and so did he, marrying the year after I did. My husband and I split up in 2012, as did he and his wife. We chatted on facebook, and the spark was still there, but never saw each other in real life and I got another boyfriend. He eventually got a girlfriend. Still we chatted, innocently but still the spark was there. My boyfriend and I split, and I was on my own for a couple of years, but he was still with his girlfriend…until they eventually split. Finally we were actually single at the same time…! So, in January 2018, after chatting online for months, he asked me out for a drink and as they say, the rest is history. It took us over 25 years to get together, but we’ve been very, very happy for 7 years now 🥰🥰

Wasn't even born in 1983. But I like reading what everyone else was doing.

TurquoiseTortoiseToastyToes · 26/01/2025 16:56
