Sure this is about the 95th million thread on this subject but, went into Boots today and it was £8 for a bottle of L’Oreal Elvive.

£7 for a medium sized box of Lindt Balls in WR.

WTAF?!

I think channel islands but that's a guess. Wish people would use actual words

Sorry me being lazy - yes, Channel Islands. So we don’t have the range of supermarkets the uk has

@TheHousemaid ah, the Channel Islands - I feel your pain. (I live on a little island too so have the same problem.) My bad for assuming you were on the mainland.

I've just done my weekly shop in Aldi. £140 , the trolley wasn't even full. It would have been around 90 not so long ago.

Supersimkin7 · 25/01/2025 16:38

Put back a double-reduced chicken in M&S just now - was reduced to £9.92.

Quite small, it was.

Anniedash · 25/01/2025 16:52

Well that’s the price we pay for the green energy scam where cost of expensive energy is being passed onto the consumer, and for the Covid freebies that everyone was only too happy to receive.

Money doesn’t grow on trees. It’s earned by producing things, borrowed and printed. In this country, being productive is mug’s game, so more than half the population are net takers. Someone has to pay.

Hedjwitch · 25/01/2025 17:00

We need to shop sensibly and use our considerable consumer power. If it's overpriced, don't buy it.
If you don't need it, don't buy it.
Cleansers, creams, toiletries can be made at home for pennies and no chemicals. Reuse and recycle where you can.
Don't fall for marketing hype.

TheHousemaid · 25/01/2025 17:14

To be fair, I refused to buy either in either shop so am voting with my feet. I was just commenting on the cost as it seems to have increased disproportionately.

We do take care with our shopping and will generally stock up when on offer or buy elsewhere if we feel it’s taking the piss.

We are a wasteful Society in the main. I live a frugal life, using natural oils for my skin, and hair, which are not expensive, and they last for quite a long time. I refuse to buy those expensive face creams, that promise the Earth, and deliver little.

Home Bargains might be worth a visit.

Cheapest shampoo in my home bargains today was £3.99!!!

Haruka · 25/01/2025 18:38

I picked up a small bottle of olive oil for £2.50 today in Morrison's, so can't complain there. But cheese! One "savers" block of unbranded cheese was £4.35!

I bought almost £60 worth of groceries and didn't have much to show for it at all. Still, good for the waistline, I guess.

itsjustbiology · 25/01/2025 21:34

There is so much I won't buy anymore. We need more markets not great big retail outlets.

Yes, I've been using a tiny amount of olive oil on clean hair for the last 6 months and it's the healthiest and shiniest it's ever been. People keep commenting on it and it's cost me literally nothing as it's olive oil from my kitchen.
It's making my nails strong too.
