To be hesitant about Covid booster?

NameChanged25 · 24/01/2025 13:58

…and whether it is necessary?

My employer is encouraging everyone to get another Covid booster, regardless of NHS eligibility. I.e. they are paying for a nurse to come in to the office and give the vaccine to everyone privately- optional of course.

im certainly not anti-vax. Always get private flu jabs, chicken pox vaccines for kids, triple covid jabbed asap at the earliest opportunity.

However….i will say that the side effects of the COVID booster (same one my office is offering) knocked me out completely for 2 days. I’ve never really had side effects of Covid itself, I’ve tested positive several times during and after the pandemic but never showed symptoms. Don’t really have the capacity to be guaranteed knocked out for 2 days - I work full time and solo parent 2 young kids most of the time.
but at the same time I can see why my employer doesn’t want people off work ill with COVID, and I don’t want to be ill either, but wondered if it’s a risk worth taking to avoid the strong possibility of bad side effects?

YABU - just get the jab and deal with it
YANBU - don’t get jabbed, and hope I don’t get side effects if I do catch it.

i think it makes sense for you not to get the booster since you’ve been wiped out with it before. It’s about weighing up different risks

Tipperttruck · 24/01/2025 14:01

What are the current risks of getting covid unvaccinated?

It ruined my cycles for over a year so I wouldn't be in a rush.

PinkiOcelot · 24/01/2025 14:02

I wouldn’t bother getting it.

DeliciousApples · 24/01/2025 14:04

I've not either.

DustyLee123 · 24/01/2025 14:05

I’m a nurse, definitely not anti vax, and I’ve only had 3. Have had my flu jab though.

VividBlue · 24/01/2025 14:08

Is Covid even a thing anymore? Who is this employer who’s willing to pay privately for everyone’s jabs?

Whoknew24 · 24/01/2025 14:10

Be very careful my poor gran was left with Gullian barre syndrome from the booster.

secondly that’s Kanas just sued Pfizer and more states all about to follow. Read the legal filings, they are sueing due to all the lies. They’ve reported increased strokes, brain tumours , rare cancers, heart attacks, gastro issues and the rest.

fingertraps · 24/01/2025 14:12

Are you sure it was the booster that did it? For all you know you just had a bug

sunshinechaser · 24/01/2025 14:15

Just for some balance as these are all anecdotal stories, I get it every year (work in a hospital) and have always been completely fine with it. I worked in covid ICU in the first wave and genuinely think it's only due to vaccines we're not back at that stage. I'll get the covid vaccine every year if I can to avoid those awful few months of 2020.
It's a drug of course and all drugs have adverse effects so I wouldn't expect this vaccine to be any different.

Floralnomad · 24/01/2025 14:16

Are your employers actually paying for this as it seems a bit odd . Personally I have had loads as I get offered the spring and autumn boosters . I’ve had most of them , skipped spring last year . I’ve never had covid and never had a problem with the vaccines so I’d probably take it if it’s free .

MajorCarolDanvers · 24/01/2025 14:16

I had the booster recently. No bad side affects.

FoxtonFoxton · 24/01/2025 14:17

I was SO ill after a covid booster. Violently sick, painful stomach, sweating and freezing...I'd never have one again after that hell.

KarmenPQZ · 24/01/2025 14:17

I think I’ve had 7 or 8 boosters now… lost count! I’ve had different reactions every time. Sometime migraines but not consistently. Sometimes tiredness and aches but not consistently. Sometimes intermittent bleeding / period but not every time. Etc. there’s no rhyme or reason and could all be totally unrelated to the vaccine.

StrawberryWater · 24/01/2025 14:18

I've refused all boosters after my last one (about 3 years ago) as I was horrendously ill afterwards (pooped 30 times in 2 days, bone tired, shivering and delirious etc and was rough as an old boot for a long time afterwards too). I have never been that ill before. Never again.

Christwosheds · 24/01/2025 14:19

I was ill for six to eight weeks after each jab including the booster, not as ill as Covid but not far off, so I haven’t had any more.

Cunningfungus · 24/01/2025 14:25

There are risks with every medication and when you give something to millions of people, of course some of them will have moderate/severe side effects - somebody has to be the 1:10,000 and the 1:1000000 who get the most serious side effects.

That said, for most people, Covid is not the threat it was. Flu is much more of a worry this year. If I’d been having side effects from the vaccine I’d weigh that with the likelihood of getting seriously ill with Covid and probably not have the vaccine (and I say that as a health care professional who was heavily involved with the vaccine roll out in the early days).

TwinklyFawn · 24/01/2025 14:31

I am not anti vaccine but i would be hesitant about having another covid booster. I have all 3 covid vaccines and my periods were messed up for a while. Normally my periods are quite light. However when i had my covid vaccines my next perooiod would be really heavy. There was blood all over the bathroom floor. Luckily they are back to normal.

Sunnnybunny72 · 24/01/2025 14:32

I'm a nurse who had hers and then went into AF out the blue and needed a cardiac ablation. Still have cardiac issues three years later. My last booster put me in A&E two days later with tachycardia. No more for me.

How the fuck can they be ‘anti vaxers’ when they’ve had their covid vaccines but got side effects? 🙄🤪

ocs30 · 24/01/2025 15:40

Can you ask your employer if they can get the Novavax vaccine? It's effective, available and is a traditional vaccine rather than MRNA. I don't know anyone who's had even a sore arm from it.

Almostwelsh · 24/01/2025 15:50

Some people react more strongly to the COVID vaccination than others. I'm one of those and I've been knocked down by both the primary vaccines and the booster (different types). I won't have any more. I've had covid a couple of times and it wasn't too bad.

If you're a person who is made ill by it, don't have it. Lots of people will say they're fine with the vaccines, but obviously you're not one of those.

Berlinlover · 24/01/2025 15:55

I foolishly got the Covid vaccine because of the draconian mandates in Ireland at the time. I haemorrhaged for two days and got diagnosed with a cancer that started in my womb in September, 2023. I will never again take a Covid vaccine as long as I live.

gamerchick · 24/01/2025 15:59

I've had all of them up to date. Never missed one. The last one I had to psych myself up because I remembered what it was like the year before and it was more brutal. The arm pain went on for days.

I don't think I'd get anymore for me personally. My husband was champion from his. It's a personal choice I think.
