To be hesitant about Covid booster?

…and whether it is necessary?

My employer is encouraging everyone to get another Covid booster, regardless of NHS eligibility. I.e. they are paying for a nurse to come in to the office and give the vaccine to everyone privately- optional of course.

im certainly not anti-vax. Always get private flu jabs, chicken pox vaccines for kids, triple covid jabbed asap at the earliest opportunity.

However….i will say that the side effects of the COVID booster (same one my office is offering) knocked me out completely for 2 days. I’ve never really had side effects of Covid itself, I’ve tested positive several times during and after the pandemic but never showed symptoms. Don’t really have the capacity to be guaranteed knocked out for 2 days - I work full time and solo parent 2 young kids most of the time.
but at the same time I can see why my employer doesn’t want people off work ill with COVID, and I don’t want to be ill either, but wondered if it’s a risk worth taking to avoid the strong possibility of bad side effects?

YABU - just get the jab and deal with it
YANBU - don’t get jabbed, and hope I don’t get side effects if I do catch it.

The twice I've known I've had covid weren't as bad as the initial jab or the winter booster in 2021. As being low risk and ineligible on the NHS, I see no point in a vaccine as bad as the virus. For someone medically higher risk, that potential benefit is much higher.

I've only had flu jabs when pregnant but didn't have side effects from those, and flu is more evenly distributed on who tends to feel rotten/ have complications with it, so the risk/ benefit is better.

I felt worse after all my Covid injections than I did with actual Covid. I'm wary of more boosters.

menopausalfart · 24/01/2025 16:13

I've always had side effects from all my other boosters. This year, I was offered a new one and had no side effects whatsoever. Can't remember the name of it though.

scorpiogirly · 24/01/2025 16:38

I regret having the two original ones. Wouldn't touch it again with a bargepole, or the flu jab.

How the fuck can they be ‘anti vaxers’ when they’ve had their covid vaccines but got side effects? 🙄🤪

Edited

Exactly 😂.
I'm not going to lie and say it made me feel wonderful just because I'm pro vaccine. Obviously I was happy enough to have it...as I had it.

Crazy anyone is still getting any anymore!

It's literally killed people. We don't have guns in the UK because they're lethal. We've had a fucking debate this week about banning knives with a point being sold because people are stabbed. We try and ban electric scooters because they're a hazard... so why are we mass jabbing healthy people with a covid jab!

Well said.

We knew from the start not to have the jabs and we don't regret it at all!

I don't regret getting mine, I'm just honest about how they made me feel.
I'm still very pro-vaccination.

I don't regret it either and I've had loads. I'm still very much pro the vaccine. I'm irritated that the anti lot have started on children's vaccines and parents are not vaccinating their kids.

We're going to see a return of the past and tbh I think people need a history lesson. The shit people come out with on the backs of the COVID vaccine is ridiculous.

cinnamonwhirl · 24/01/2025 18:51

I've not taken up the offer for the latest covid booster. I can't face feeling so ill from it as I have awful side effects each time . I've had the flu jab - no side effects. A few weeks after my second covid jab I suddenly had constant chronic diarrhea which lead to a diagnosis of an inflammatory bowel disease. It has changed my life. I didn't make any connections to the jab at the time. It's only years later that I wonder if it triggered it. There may be no connection.

Muddypawsies · 24/01/2025 18:55

I got frozen shoulder after a badly administered covid jab. Never again.

FrenchandSaunders · 24/01/2025 18:57

I’d tell him I wasn’t having it. He can’t make you. Ridiculous. Who even thinks about covid these days 🤷🏼‍♀️

Tentententhen · 24/01/2025 19:13

Is this the UK ? Kind of bizarre that they are still focussed on Covid…did they offer the flu vaccine ,as this would likely have more impact on their sickness rates.

The 100 people who died from it / with it in one week earlier this month and their relatives and friends . Everyone has a choice , if you don’t want a vaccine then don’t take one .

Hussle · 24/01/2025 19:26

I’ve decided I’m not having any more boosters. Was really ill after the last one.

Firealarm1414 · 24/01/2025 20:43

I didn't get any of the covid shots and I don't regret it one bit when I hear about all the horrible side effects some people had. In fact, I feel the opposite. Husband was having hallucinations after his first one and wasn't right for a long while after. Plus he's now had covid more times than me. His doctor told him not to get anymore and that no one should due to all the issues he is seeing.

Yes they do offer flu vaccines annually. This is the first year they have offered a covid booster.

Tell work you can take it but on the understanding it might keep you off sick for a couple of days.
