To think they should refund

I messaged a local rescue page about a cat I was interested in. They told me she was 3 years old and was a surrender. They said I can reserve her for £30 and do a meet and greet. They’ve said that this is because they have people arranging to meet cats and then not go ahead. Met her at the weekend and it went well and I was all set to adopt her and pick her up at the weekend. I went out and bought all the things needed for her. Now they’ve just messaged and said they have requested vet records for and she’s in fact 8 years old. I’ll probably be flamed for this but I now don’t want to go ahead as I am looking for a younger cat personally due to our home life which can be sometimes busy and I have a 5 year old DD. I asked if my reserve fee can be returned and now they’re ignoring me I think. Should they refund me?

Yes, as the information they provided was incorrect!

Hufflemuff · 22/01/2025 19:15

Yes of course they should refund! Or offer to find you a new cat! 🐈

FoxtonFoxton · 22/01/2025 19:16

Yes they should. There is a massive difference between 3 and 8.

NormaleKartoffeln · 22/01/2025 19:17

They provided incorrect information so they probably should refund you. That said, I'd consider still adopting the cat.
8 isn't that old for a cat and she's still the lovely cat you liked. She might actually be more chilled.

sandrapinchedmysandwich · 22/01/2025 19:17

They should refund but what does the age of your dd or having a busy home life have to do with your decision? An 8 year old cat and a 3 year old cat are not much different really in presentation and behaviour. I would have thought your decision would be more based around possibility of vets bills occurring earlier if anything

Agree entirely. We adopted a cat who was 8, she was the best thing that ever happened to us. And lived for another 12 years!

2025willbemytime · 22/01/2025 19:21

We rescued two cats who were aged 0-3 years 🙄

Adopted them, took them to the vet. They were 12 and 18 months old.

So they were within the range quoted then?

And the issue is what exactly?

2025willbemytime · 22/01/2025 19:31

0-3 years is a big change from 12 months.

LoremIpsumCici · 22/01/2025 19:31

I don’t think you are due a refund, as you changed your mind. Your reasons actually are good reasons for an older, and therefore calmer cat, not a younger cat.

So exactly as expected

LetMeStopWhatImDoingToFixTheProblemYouMade · 22/01/2025 19:40

I wonder if this is why they get so many not going ahead 🤦🏼‍♀️ yes they should refund BUT as others have said 8 isn't too old.

If you liked the cat in and of itself, get the cat! I think cats live forever.

arcticpandas · 22/01/2025 19:41

How is it a problem to the household that the cat is 8 years old? It's the same cat you saw and liked?

UndermyShoeJoe · 22/01/2025 19:42

Probably one of their money makers. £30. Oh no just found out this. Oh I don’t want him. Ok you don’t get your deposit back.

Its not

EmberAsh · 22/01/2025 19:45

It sounds like a charity and you still want a cat. Instead of asking for a refund, I would ask for first priority of a cat in the age range you requested when one comes in and no expectation to pay the £30 again to view. Or taking the 8 year old cat since you liked it is still an option too.

wtf?!

12 months = 1 year.

So well within the range of 0-3 years.

How is it not?

No it isn’t, 12mths is well within the 0-3years age bracket
0-3years, means anything between a new born and a 3 year old

She changed her mind because the cat wasn’t what she had been told it was, it was a lot older, she was mis sold

I don’t understand… 12 and 18 month fall within the 0-3 range you were told. How old were you expecting them to be?

Coffeeisnecessary · 22/01/2025 20:00

I need to read how 0-3 years is not 12/18months!! Can't work out the problem!

This is like 'I adopted a cat and it turned out to be a cat'.
