Nearly a grand on ordering food in less than two months, please help

I can’t say too much about my situation and my lifestyle as it’s really quite outing but long story short, I order food practically everyday. I have a diagnosed eating disorder but there’s a 8-12 month waiting list before even getting an assessment for the type of help that’s required so I won’t be having therapy for that anytime soon.

Today, I felt really stressed about my weight and money and decided enough is enough. I went through my transactions and saw that from January 2025 alone, I’ve spent £476.32 on Just Eat/Uber Eats/Deliveroo. I spent £598.64 in December. I’m shocked. I knew I had a bad habit but this bad? I’m always stressed and my way of de stressing isn’t picking up a cigarette but it’s going online to order food and comfort eat.

Have people really overcome an eating disorder? I know I need help and I understand if people don’t sympathise as it’s a lot of money but I really can’t live like this anymore. Any tips or advice on how to take small steps will really be appreciated, thank you

Isn't that rather like telling someone with anorexia if they're serious they'd eat?

Please...a little sensitivity wouldn't go amiss

She hasn’t got anorexia though and she has the funds available to seek help without draining nhs resources. As far as I know, over eating isn’t a medical issue?

Those of you recommending overeaters anonymous please can you share details.
A Google search doesn't give me much local in the UK.

Thanks.

Sorry, I'm a bit late to this but there's a page to find a face to face meeting, you can select England/Scotland/Wales and then your nearest city:
https://oa.org/find-a-meeting/?type=0

Or an online meeting (quite a lot of options) :
https://oa.org/find-a-meeting/?type=1

I know it's run by volunteers - my friend did quite a lot - so it can be a bit hit and miss as to what is available in each area.

Find a meeting - Overeaters Anonymous

Find hope and support from people who have recovered from compulsive eating and compulsive food behaviors. No dues or fees.

If you read her post, you'll see she has a diagnosed eating disorder, so yes a medical issue and no, not just a case of "over eating".

Anorexia isn't the only serious eating disorder, you can find more information on some of the links people have shared here if you've not heard of others such as this.

Shocking that in 2025, eating disorders excluding anorexia are ignored.

Overeating is a very serious psychological medical condition.

Many people afford to feed their addiction, doesn't necessarily mean they can afford private care, it means other areas of their life aren't financially secure, fix before bills.

Ignorance is bliss.

Thank you so much for the majority of the comments on my post. To those that have been empathetic or have shared their experiences with their eating disorder, thank you.

There has been so many good suggestions on here and I’ve already batched cooked four containers of my favourite meal. I haven’t ordered take out since my post as I’m trying my best to stick to three meals, three snacks a day. This was also something my psychiatrist advised me to do when I started treatment a year or so ago. Unfortunately, I couldn’t continue as my disabled son has loads of hospital appointments and I didn’t have enough time to juggle everything.

I have two books which have been in my cupboard for years which I’ve finally started to read. They’re called Overcoming Binge Eating and Getting Better By Bite. As I have bulimia, these are the books that were recommended to me to work on helping myself. It’s sad that a few posters have disregarded any eating disorders that aren’t anorexia but that’s ignorance for you.

Thank you to the poster who linked the Beat pages and Overeaters Anonymous. Again, these are sites that I’ve been aware of for years but haven’t gained the courage to fully get support. I have a phonecall booked in with a private healthcare professional on the 1st of February. Hopefully I can start therapy with them even if I can only do two/three sessions a month due to my schedule.

It’s all on me now and I’m going to try my best to be consistent and do better. If not for me, for my children at least. Thank you for the support❤️

Well done.

It takes an age to accept and understand the OA 12 step program.

Our levels of resistance are intense. I'm a member a long time of an anonymous program, not OA.... NA.

Before entering a meeting, listen to the concept on YouTube, hearing other's stories, get to know the steps, the system, visualise them.

I done this for at least one year before I took the plunge.

Best of luck.

Sounds like a good plan @HelpIsOverdue , best of luck with it .

Guttedandblue · 25/01/2025 00:11

Well done OP, that’s a great start. I’m glad you are trying to stick to the 3 meals and 3 snacks meal plan and starting therapy again. Keep posting on here too if it helps to share your progress and get support

The op has an eating disorder, and you’re not supposed to use mounjaro if you do; she’s not stated what kind, or her weight so I think thr recommendations for it are premature,

No-one had mentioned it before you did?
