To think Trump will declare himself as a God?

2025ohdear · 22/01/2025 13:24

He seems to be edging closer to being the second coming or a new God. His anger at religious leaders having a platform to call him out is something he would want to shut down. Said God spared him etc

Would this actually surprise anyone?

I'm being serious here. Saying he should remain in power as it's about faith and opposition is the work of the devil plays to his support.

You sound fairly unhinged yourself. Plenty of people express thanks to god for their current position including the King of England and the Pope.
In answer to your question no I don't believe Trump will declare himself to be God.

TheCourseOfTheRiverChanged · 22/01/2025 13:31

I was surprised by his reaction to being shot at. I thought he was a narcissist who enjoyed weilding power, who would run away with his tail between his legs when things got real. But he does actually seem to believe he has some kind of calling.
But I think that's more common among leaders of countries than we realise. Blair and Bush jnr. had some weird thing going on where they believed God had put them in their respective posts in order to allow the invasion of Iraq to go ahead.
It feels weirder with Trump because he's so weird.

2025ohdear · 22/01/2025 13:34

It's the Bible selling, and god is guiding me. He's such an ego maniac that it would be the next step

This is how religious start. You just declare yourself as one and if people follow, hey presto!

I'm a non believer so recognise the grift in many religions and Trump is nothing if not a shameless grifter.

He is already the God Emperor, elevated to deity back in 2019.

I am avoiding coverage of US politics, Trump in particular, at the moment and for the next 4 years - unless a miracle happens and somebody sane somehow becomes President in that time (not holding my breath for that). Although I don't think Trump would declare himself God, I do firmly believe that he is ready to establish a hereditary dictatorship and that the US is screwed.

MistressoftheDarkSide · 22/01/2025 14:20

I understand where you're coming from OP. There's so much about the rhetoric coming from Trump and his cronies about being chosen as a saviour that's directly adjacent to one particular early 20th century leader that watching the inauguration and following speeches left me feeling really queasy.

Religion and politics are a scary mix. If you really want to delve into it from a US perspective there is an interesting two part documentary exploring the impact of evangelical Christian thought on policy called "Praying for Armageddon". It's by Al Jazeera. Some quite influential religious people believe that the Gaza situation should be encouraged to play out in order to bring about the second coming of Christ.

It's easy to scoff and dismiss but if people have deranged beliefs, money, power and the ears of government all hell could break loose. Some people will do anything for money and power, so non-believers who are greedy and amoral will think nothing of claiming allegiance even if they don't truly believe if the price is right.

I think there is no limit to Trump's ego, and elevating himself to God-like status due to divine right doesn't sound far-fetched to me.

The Englush commentator for Sky's coverage of the inauguration said there was a distinct lack of any humility in the whole thing, and I got strong "world domination" vibes from the whole thing. With tech, and economic policy, a determined megalomaniac doesn't need to put military boots on foreign territory to conquer, and I think this is why he has surrounded himself with the mega rich and the tech bros.

I'm looking at the future with a huge amount of trepidation.

Has he appointed his horse as a senator yet?

KimberleyClark · 22/01/2025 14:21

I wouldn’t be surprised. Cult leaders - which he is - often do.

He is a highly dangerous demagogue. People seem to be less horrified and shocked this time round which is even more alarming.

In the ultra fast speed social media driven world where there is no objective truth, where there is black and white, uncritical thinking, where context and nuance mean nothing- populist monsters like him are thriving.

The shooting was an absolute gift and I knew it would be built into his narrative. God saved Trump so He could Make America Great Again.

It's as old as time. See also: the Divine Right of Kings. Happily that was seen off by our forbears who were far wiser than many of our contemporaries seem to be.

NotTerfNorCis · 22/01/2025 15:38

He probably has a Messiah complex. Musk undoubtedly does. But it wouldn't be part of our culture for a leader to declare themselves actually a god, to be worshipped. Not in so many words.

This is getting ridiculous now

Ted27 · 22/01/2025 15:53

nothing would surprise me but I was more concerned about Barron who if its possible looked even more arrogant than his father, and the positioning of the family as a whole as some kind of dynasty in waiting

In fairness, that's actually part, if not the entirety, of their job description.

I'm also avoiding coverage. I am also concerned that Trumps aim is to establish a hereditary dictatorship. I don't think just the US is screwed. He's stuck two fingers up to the climate

dottiehens · 22/01/2025 16:17

Who cares? Piece of advice if you hate the man do not give him any space. Nothing is going to changed the results and people knew enough bad things about him before they elected him for a second time. It is you who is getting hurt he will be happy in spite of your misery. Think about it!

HawkTUAHspitonthatthing · 22/01/2025 16:31

MAGA

make all this go away!

TomatoSandwiches · 22/01/2025 16:35

He won't do it... people around him will do it.

Iamthewintersale · 22/01/2025 16:37

I can see him doing a Henry the 8th… as in his god appointed and speaks directly to his therefore is the ultimate power in earth…

I thought it was pretty iconic when Elon Musk's starship exploded across the sky. Maybe he did it on purpose

HRTQueen · 22/01/2025 16:59

he is very typical of cult leaders, overly confident in their own abilities, risk takers, charismatic, an ability to be very astute at reading their audience, high levels of narcissistic traits and he has comfortably won the most prized role in world politics with almost ultimate power at his hands

plus cult followers that he knows have absolute faith in him. He was telling us this years ago

he is already making claims he was chosen he sees himself as the saviour of the USA

But then so does Elon Musk … it won’t be long before the cracks show in those around him
