Before creeping corners drive me to madness, please share your tips on how to stop duvets moving in covers!

I have a lovely new duvet. It's great. However it absolutely will not stay in the duvet cover properly but steadily creeps into a ball over the course of a few days. Different duvets in these sheets are fine. This duvet however won't work with any duvet cover - it refuses. I dont want to get rid of the duvet because it was expensive, I really like the weight and the comfort of it when it isn't pissing off to the far corner of the cover.

Please give me some ideas to avoid me slipping into madness. Google hasn't offered much.

I too am glad I saw this thread.

It;s upset because you are calling it a duvet instead of a doona ! The proper name. Putting hard hat on!!!!

VipersKiss · 22/01/2025 04:59

Nice one!

Doona is if you’re in Australia. I remember reading a book in which someone set fire to their doona, and I was mystified about what they were talking about (long before google).

It was a continental quilt when I was growing up.

Shinyandnew1 · 22/01/2025 07:13

My duvet seems to stay in the corners ok but the edge always shifts so it's not sitting neatly in the seam of the duvet cover so you can see the other side-it's a first world problem but really annoys me!

ohwhattododo · 22/01/2025 11:20

@Tangerinenets it's only just happened with our duvet this winter, with a combination of a very heavy 15 tog Superking duvet, and high thread-count cotton bedding.

We have an identical duvet in 10.5 tog which we used up until the autumn, with the same bedding, and no issue at all.

I've presumed it's caused by the 'slipperyness' of the duvet cover moving against the heavy duvet which doesn't move much.

Thanks for the suggestions on this thread; it's been annoying me on a daily (nightly) basis, and I didn't know anyone else had this issue!!

canipetthatdawggg · 22/01/2025 11:25

I've found the higher the thread count, the more it happens on mine, which is unfortunate. I'm also a very restless sleeper!

you can try duvet clips though they are a bit ugly: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Lyxtiorn-UPGRADED-Non-Slip-Comforter-Gripping/dp/B0CRB258T2/ref=sr_1_9?crid=121XPCH4ZV1MY&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.QSGX3V2h6BrIB_jbJlGQXk7_fKn6dKgvfqUed6cU8TedxMO0HiC23crKmkY-R4uyZnx0EReJeoCcLRpPGtQGCZDEMIh2iKb5i4rohA6T_7CKW8eo00mQTRgoQHTSYpMqL8IpVy_aSCIHvXjnNdrqNVKbtKS0JfGpTBGcOlFOaDImhwGOcyNILSDa38iQr1oth_9uWx3o3NR77zhRzNCRftA77rL-ZO7JILtINDRSVjgzZg2NT83TZveNh_Mrl1bNXNkyaANxeZ67XDmkv-OERNWcQvOFbAoUO9kbnkcNIOkaXk8zM6Y3wv5-f7qwAj6lQSfGG37tsbQpck9he_CydwlC9hpg_N2Fjl5IeagcfEI.86Gj1UPxBzkRDBThJGyRho_TfHcdBSEab36QNj5iGZM&dib_tag=se&keywords=duvet+clips&qid=1737572707&s=kitchen&sprefix=duvet+clips%2Ckitchen%2C102&sr=1-9

Oldraver · 22/01/2025 19:10

I sewed on ribbons in the corners and looped them through the buttonholes on the corner of the duvet

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 22/01/2025 21:26

I had a duvet that had a sort of microfiber finish, and the nap of it made it 'walk' to the end of the duvet cover. Nightmare.

I looked at clips but I like to have the corner of the duvet tucked up under my chin and thought they'd be uncomfortable. So I bought these iron on press studs, and they're perfect.

I have these - not cheap but have used for 6 years. The duvet never moves and they are easy to take off

These seem great, not that I need them

I remember when they first arrived in the UK and were called continental quilts. My Mum was so excited to say goodbye to sheets and blankets.

MyDeftDuck · 23/01/2025 10:24

Stitch a small square of velcro into the inside corners of the duvet cover and the corresponding piece of velcro onto the corner of the duvet itself......sorted.

Poppins2016 · 23/01/2025 10:29

ThatEllie · 22/01/2025 02:32

Wait do none of you have ties on yours? My duvets have little loops on the corners and the covers have strings on the inside corners and I tie them in so it all stays put.

I've never bought a duvet or cover that has loops/ties... and I buy my bedding from fairly standard places (M&S, John Lewis, TU/Sainsbury's, etc.).

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 23/01/2025 12:50

I have one duvet set which has ties (it came from Amazon) but none of my others do. Re coverless duvets - how do these work if you don't have a tumble drier? Do you need several to make sure there's always a dry one?

Definitelynotme2022 · 23/01/2025 13:00

Dmsandfloatydress · 21/01/2025 21:32

Just give up and buy coverless duvets. Total game changer!

This! I love mine

CharlotteStreetW1 · 23/01/2025 13:46

I can't believe we're having to explain nappy pins. Weep...

As you were.

Laughingravy · 23/01/2025 16:13

@VenusClapTrap I’m not keen on the idea of something hard and poky in the corner of my duvet.
Giggle snort!! 😆

Edited

I've never bought one like this, but I have sewn some in. I don't find it a problem with single duvets, but it can be a problem with double or bigger. Or perhaps it's having 2 people fighting over the duvet that's a problem...

JaneFrances · 30/12/2025 17:06

Everley · 21/01/2025 21:19

Duvet clips!

I genuinely thought I was going mad as never had this problem before but I have a new duvet and it was stopping me sleeping every single night. A 2am search on Reddit led me to ordering these. Game changer.

I bought those and they made no difference.
