Before creeping corners drive me to madness, please share your tips on how to stop duvets moving in covers!

I have a lovely new duvet. It's great. However it absolutely will not stay in the duvet cover properly but steadily creeps into a ball over the course of a few days. Different duvets in these sheets are fine. This duvet however won't work with any duvet cover - it refuses. I dont want to get rid of the duvet because it was expensive, I really like the weight and the comfort of it when it isn't pissing off to the far corner of the cover.

Please give me some ideas to avoid me slipping into madness. Google hasn't offered much.

If you can sew, maybe buttons on the quilt and loops on the covers?

Everley · 21/01/2025 21:19

Duvet clips!

I genuinely thought I was going mad as never had this problem before but I have a new duvet and it was stopping me sleeping every single night. A 2am search on Reddit led me to ordering these. Game changer.

@Everley do you find they come off? I am a very restless sleeper and my new duvet is very heavy so a bit worried these wouldn't hold up.

@HÆLTHEPAIN it depends what you mean by being able to sew. I definitely can but not well 😂 I'd rather avoid it if possible but Google seems to suggest it's the only viable option if you're restless and don't want to damage your duvet.

I feel your pain. I even went to the lengths of sewing on loops, but they broke. I might try the clips - but I’m not keen on the idea of something hard and poky in the corner of my duvet.

Laiste · 21/01/2025 21:30

What about getting 4 great big old fashioned
'nappy pins' (basically huge safety pins) and pin through the cover and the duvet on each corner?

NotQuitePeachy · 21/01/2025 21:30

My mum uses nappy pins - like safety pins, but they lock so you can't get accidentally stabbed! I know they sell them at dunelm, but I imagine lots of other places too

Dmsandfloatydress · 21/01/2025 21:32

Just give up and buy coverless duvets. Total game changer!

MassiveSalad22 · 21/01/2025 21:34

Safety pin - never had any problems with either being poked or them coming undone. Pin through corner of duvet and inside corner of duvet cover. Perfectly comfortable weirdly!

CanadianInLondon23 · 21/01/2025 21:35

I have these - not cheap but have used for 6 years. The duvet never moves and they are easy to take off

Everley · 21/01/2025 21:35

@Tiredofallthis101 Nope, they don’t come off for me and I am also a VERY restless sleeper, and also in and out of bed with a teething toddler for week-long stretches. My duvet is heavy too.

I don’t even know they’re there. They’re actually quite soft and very unnoticeable. And I’m someone who’s SO particular about comfort in bed.

DuesToTheDirt · 21/01/2025 21:46

Ties - lengths of tape sewn onto the corners of the duvet and loops sewn into the corners of the duvet cover, or vice versa.

achangeofusername · 21/01/2025 22:17

The iron on clips from Amazon are amazing

Sausagenbacon · 21/01/2025 22:45

So glad to see this thread.
I hate it when I have 6" empty duvet next to my face. I can't sleep, but getting to adjust it in the middle of the night was too much effort.

Hoardasurass · 21/01/2025 22:51

Velcro is your friend here

Newmum738 · 21/01/2025 23:00

This is a very worthwhile thread. Thanks for posting it OP!

Havingaswimmoose · 22/01/2025 00:00

They aren't nappy pins.
They are kilt pins which are much thicker metal to poke through.
Maybe this has already been said. If so sorry for repetition.

Tangerinenets · 22/01/2025 00:14

I wonder what makes that happen. There are 5 double beds in my house and this doesn’t happen with any of my or my kids duvets. We all have 7-10tog duvets, I think they’re all just standard John Lewis duvets, nothing special. I do spend a lot on bedding though , all of our duvet sets are from Bedeck. 🤔. Curious!

ThatEllie · 22/01/2025 02:32

Wait do none of you have ties on yours? My duvets have little loops on the corners and the covers have strings on the inside corners and I tie them in so it all stays put.

mathanxiety · 22/01/2025 02:43

Buttons are your friend.

A heavy duvet sounds strange, aren't they meant to be light and billowy?

Maybe that's the problem of it creeping?

I've never noticed it either..
Duvet covers are a pain though- they always end up 'eating' the other things put in the washing machine with them.
