Makes me want to punch a wall.
That is all.

I'd never heard it in all of my 51 years until 6 months ago, on MN. I've since heard it around 3 times, also on MN. I don't mind it

Youhaveyourhandsfull · 21/01/2025 19:17

I like it as people us it to mean two different things depending on if it's not a hill you'd be prepared to die on, or if it absolutely is a hill you'd be prepared to die on. Not many idioms work that way.

willowbrookmanor · 21/01/2025 19:21

I love it!

And when I say it, my kids know, I mean business with whatever it is in relation too! 😂

SoScarletItWas · 21/01/2025 19:24

JustMyView13 · 21/01/2025 19:05

I like it!
And I’ll flip it too - ‘and I am prepared to die on that hill’

I have been known to Flip similarly and say ‘Well this is my circus and these are absolutely my monkeys’ 🤣🤣

BebbanburgIsMine · 21/01/2025 19:28

I haven't seen it anywhere except Mumsnet.

I absolutely loathe it,

Any variation of "host, hosted, hosting" is another one I can't stand.

I’m stealing that! 🤣🤣

You sound very wound up/ agressive

Have people been quoting this phrase to you in an attempt to convince you to let something go and not get into a fight about it?

seelookhearboo · 21/01/2025 19:30

Agree. I think the internet has reduced our vocabulary and ways to say things greatly.

Greyish2025 · 21/01/2025 19:31

Tryingtokeepgoing · 21/01/2025 18:59

I hate the phrase ‘punch a wall’ , but it’s not a hill I’m willing to die on…

😁😁

maddiemookins16mum · 21/01/2025 19:31

It's not a phrase I use but it doesn't really offend me. I did however have a colleague who did not like its use because she was a Christian.

There’s a lot of mileage in this idea of reversing idioms.

”I have an almost inexhaustible supply of fucks, and I’m prepared to donate all of them.”

…keep going…..

daisychain01 · 21/01/2025 19:32

Not something I'd die in a ditch over.

7ft1garysson · 21/01/2025 19:33

I hate it too you’re not alone @easylemonsqueezy

CreationNat1on · 21/01/2025 19:35

I dislike it too.

Something sanctimonious about one person telling another what they subjectively believe to be petty. It's often used by my abusive sister, when she wants to dismiss any drama that she has drilled up. Deflate without an apology.

Collette78 · 21/01/2025 19:35

I like it … but I say “it is what it is” a lot and people don’t like that either 😂

User09678 · 21/01/2025 19:36

It's a good phrase.

Why would it offend a Christian? Probably a stupid question but I don't know the answer exactly

Letmehaveabloodyusernameplease · 21/01/2025 19:39

I thought it was ' Not my hill to die on' 🤔

Gah YABVU using that phrase I’m afraid 😂

Hankunamatata · 21/01/2025 19:39

Very common phrase where I'm from.

Assuming it’s because Jesus was crucified on a hill.

SunshineAndFizz · 21/01/2025 19:42

I like it.

What about 'pick your battles', do you prefer that?

Chouradanilova · 21/01/2025 19:42

@easylemonsqueezy I’m with you op.

SoScarletItWas · 21/01/2025 19:43

SoScarletItWas · 21/01/2025 18:45

I don’t mind it. Better than the alternatives:

I'm not going to die in a ditch over it
or
I’m not getting bent out of shape over it

I’ve also decided I prefer it to the similar phrases of:

I’ve got no skin in this game

and the vile

I don’t have a dog in this fight

GentlyAnarchistic · 21/01/2025 19:43

When I see posters bent out of shape over something so trivial, I always think they must lead a very privileged life.
