I will start. In 2023 i went to the haven caravan park in Berwick. I stupidly forgot to pack a shower mat and i slipped while getting out of the shower. Anyway i had to phone an ambulance as i could not put any weight on my right leg. At the hospital the doctor asked me to stand up. I could put a bit of weight on my leg but i fell again when i tried to walk. My knee just gave way. I still shudder when i think about this holiday.

Great Yarmouth.

Worst for us was Alcudia, we went as a last family holiday as ds was not wanting to come with us again after that year, the hotel was ok but we all ended up with over 100 mosquito bites each, the most uncomfortable week of our lives, we felt like we were getting eaten alive!

felt so ill and itchy all week.

I stupidly agreed to go to Dominican Republic with a fairly new boyfriend, for a week over new year.

It was ghastly. The food was truly dreadful, the same buffet every day, and it was one of those horrid all-inclusives where everyone tries to drink their holiday costs in cheap booze so most people were drunk. Absolutely not my thing.

I retreated to the quietest part of the grounds with a sunlounger and a book. Boyfriend wanted to party and spent the whole holiday in a mood.

Then everyone on the plane home wanted to continue drinking, wouldn't sit down and be quiet, and so I got no sleep. We got to Gatwick at 4am and boyfriend announced he would ring his elderly mum to come and get him - knowing I wouldn't let him do anything so selfish.

So I drove him home to Brighton, where he tried to insist I go in and meet his mum for the first time. I refused because I'd had no sleep. I'd been up all night and in my clothes for close to 20 hours and I had a long drive home ahead of me. I certainly wasn't in the mood for introductions.

He lost his temper so I ended up dumping his bag on the pavement and driving off. I dumped him too after I'd had a shower, some sleep and a decent meal. Never again. 😳

You poor thing.

Imo Berwick Haven sight is Hell on earth..

We went there last summer after we came back our main holiday. My kids had always wanted to stay in caravan. The place was utter hell 🤣 food was shocking, it needed doused in bleach.

First and last caravan holiday ever 🤦‍♀️

TwinklyFawn · 18/01/2025 17:29

Some of these holidays sound horrific.

Holiday with extended family over new year about 10 years ago. DD and I got V and D and we saw the new year in together sharing a sick bowl. Was also in the limbo of wondering whether my marriage would survive (unrelated to the holiday) whilst being unsure how everyone there knew about what was going on. Was definitely not a fun holiday!,

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 18/01/2025 17:35

Bamako Bulgaria. Awful. From the accommodation, lift questions, dodgy henchmen outside bars, dogs everywhere, and being told a burger was same same like cow but different. I'm guessing horse.

I can usually make the best of a situation but not here.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 18/01/2025 17:37

Bansko ffs

AnathemaPulsifer · 18/01/2025 17:38

Normandy, ten day camping holiday and it poured for 8 of them. Fortunately there were loads of us and we had a big gazebo (two linked together) so we still had fun but we were all googling escape routes.

My mum loves the haven site at Berwick. I don't know what planet she is living on. The food isn't fit for humans.

Minorca rained every day. Apartment was filthy and we heard there were rats. Site manager tried to have a fight with the male guests who complained. Told one single mum with her children to get out of the bar area as she looked like a bitch.
6pm he was turning the electric off.
I asked for an extra blanket for our little girl he wanted to charge 100euros.
Any child who was laughing in the pool got shouted at.
Guests were complaining to the rep and phoning Thomas cook.
After 4 days Thomas cook removed him. The rep had to get extra support for this to happen. Poor young man he was only early 20s.

Holiday of a lifetime to the W Coast of the USA in 2007. 5 nights in San Francisco visiting our best man & his new wife then flight to Vegas, collected RV then touring round N Arizona, helicopter flight at the Grand Canyon, then dropping off RV, collecting a car, driving to LA so DDs could visit Disneyland. Well that was the idea.

On the flight out DH felt sick and really not himself. Struggled on in SF but I did all the driving. Friends were worried but he was not too bad. Flew to Vegas. It was 40 degrees plus. DD2 then aged 6 was sick with the heat. We got in the RV and had a couple of nights but then near Flagstaff DH's appendix ruptured. I drove the bloody RV to the nearest hospital, DH was admitted & they started him on antibiotics but couldn't treat him as they didn't have the facilities. DH was airlifted to Tucson late at night. DDs and I slept in the RV on the hospital car park. Next day the social workers helped us to plan how to get rid of the RV and to Tucson - they were the most lovely, kind people. I drove the RV to Phoenix with DD1 aged 8 reading out directions to me. Swapped to a car and we drove to Tuscon. DH was in an induced coma in ICU. He almost died but expert medical care and 4 surgeries saved him. We flew home a week later than planned having missed loads of our dream holiday.

However, the £52 insurance policy covered almost everything. The MedEvac was $39k, the ICU bed was $2.5k per day and he was there for a week before transferring to a normal ward. We met the most lovely medical people and my daughters became experts at reading ICU monitors - "Mummy, is 98% oxygen saturation good?" We missed our original flights so the fabulous head of social work at the hospital in Tucson helped us book alternatives, despite the bastard insurers doing everything they could to scupper things. BA were simply amazing with all of us and spoilt the DDs rotten - when I wrote to them to thank them for helping to make a really stressful situation just a bit easier, they sent us a hamper to say thanks.

We still haven't been back to Tucson, but had a fab trip to Washington State 15 months ago. Maybe in a year or two...

Cape Verde
All inclusive prison. Absolutely miles from anywhere.
The drinks were disgusting and the food even worse. Flies crawling over everything 🤢

So many people I know raved about it ! Said it was amazing for kids etc.

Never been so disappointed, and agree food was the worst we’ve ever came across. The swimming pool is green and everything needs a proper deep clean and more staff.

The other crap holiday I went to Rhodes before lockdown with a guy I’d only been dating a couple of months.
I expected chilling round the pool then relaxed al fresco dinners followed by late night cocktails. He had other ideas - he literally got on the Mythos from breakfast and all day long. So by the time we’d had dinner, he was falling asleep and wanted to go to bed - at about 9/10 every night!

A couple of nights I put my foot down and said I wanted to stop at a bar and have a cocktail. He got the right hump. He had one beer, down it in about 2 minutes and sat talking his foot waiting for me to drink my Mojito. Then when I said I wanted another, he stood up grabbed the bill paid it and said ‘no we’re going home’
Another night I said I wasn’t going to bed at 10 so let’s have a drink at the hotel bar. He sat in silence refused to order and drink and yawned while I drank mine. I told him to go to bed and I’d have another and he said he wasn’t leaving me as the Greek barman couldn’t be trusted.

We split up not long after we got home

SheWaits · 18/01/2025 17:51

A visit to my husbands home town. A city I'd wanted to visit my whole life.

The weather was shite and we did basically none of the highlights because his bloody mother wouldn't let him out of her sight for the whole two weeks.

heyhopotato · 18/01/2025 17:04

Nowhere near as bad as some of these others, but in-laws wanted to go on a walking holiday in Austria...where they wanted to go was just grass with mountains in the distance and we'd walk miles across these fields with nothing to see only to eat some badly cooked veal (I don't like any kind of meat) and walk back again. The hotel had bed bugs and mosquitos so was constantly bitten and itching, and on top of that they used scented toilet paper which gave me an incredibly uncomfortable rash...and of course walking 10 miles a day wanting to just scratch every part of my body in the heat was just horrible and made me so grumpy. In the middle of nowhere so nowhere to get any kind of pain relief, and all while (badly) pretending I was having a great time.

Edited

Yup, I've called victim to the scented toilet paper on holiday. I was in agony and had to call 111 early on a Sunday morning for a doctor's appointment. Thankfully it was a telephone consultation and she sent a prescription to a local pharmacy that was open.

I complained to the holiday company, it has on site management, and they just laughed

Malbecfan · 18/01/2025 17:53

@cadburyegg apparently what doesn't kill you makes you stronger!

To be fair, the DDs and I got to see lots of things round Tucson and the medics and hotel really spoiled us - free tickets to the Desert Museum and the Zoo because their partners worked there. They loved our accents and bent lots of rules to help us, which was very much appreciated. I've still not been to the Grand Canyon!

BigSkies2022 · 18/01/2025 17:54

I'm afraid my ex is the common denominator of all the crap holidays I've ever had, (Majorca, Madeira, Fuerteventura) and the crapness was entirely down to him being a mean, tight-fisted t**t who sucked the joy out of everything by not wanting to spend money on anything, least of all decent food. We ate dairylea on bread for 5 days in Madeira. I have since embraced spending on the good things in life, and feeling the joy, so I suppose I should thank the stingy bastard.

YiayiaP · 18/01/2025 17:54

Tunisia. Questionable food hygiene (I spent 4 days in bed with diarrhoea and sickness…) and a random guy grabbed me and pulled me away from my husband whilst we were walking through a market. I cried a lot on that holiday!

Do you normally pack a shower mat? And just forgot this time? It wouldn’t occur to me. Although maybe it might now as that sounds painful. Sorry it happened to you n
