Faint line after morning after pill.

Charl97 · 18/01/2025 13:37

Hope anyone can give me some advice.
i had unprotected sex with my partner on the 8th december and got the morning after pill on the 9th december. I had my period on the 25tb december to the 1st of january 2025. This was heavy but nothing unusual for me. I have had a bad flu over this last week and felt poorly at work so i did a test just to rule out anything and a faint positive came up? What does this mean? Anyone experienced this.

I would not call that a faint positive, it's very visible. False positives are rare, so you are almost certainly pregnant. Can you test again tomorrow be sure? How would you feel if you were pregnant?

The morning after pill only works to delay your ovulation, so if you'd already ovulated then it won't work.

The period being so long and heavy is odd, but people do have bleeds during pregnancy and everything is fine.

Chapter100 · 18/01/2025 13:43

That is not a faint positive, it’s a very definite positive! Have you had unprotected sex since the time in December? Maybe the period was am implantation bleed? I’ve had them before, or maybe an incomplete miscarriage? I’d probably get a clear blue with the weeks on to maybe give you an idea of how far pregnant you are and also see if you can get referred to the early pregnancy unit to see what’s going on. Good luck x

biggreenapple24 · 18/01/2025 13:47

Have you had unprotected sex or if you're relying on hormonal contraception any issues with upset stomach/vomiting since your last period started?

If you have a regular 28 day cycle you could have ovulated on or before the 8th Jan, so you could be just pregnant this cycle.

DazedAndConfused321 · 18/01/2025 13:47

The colour of the line doesn't matter, a line is a line. You're definitely pregnant x

BarbaraHoward · 18/01/2025 13:52

That's strongly positive to me, my faint positives barely showed in photos. Best of luck whatever you decide. Flowers

Fontainebleau007 · 18/01/2025 13:52

That's a definite positive. Like someone else said the morning after pill won't work if you've already ovulated.

cakewench · 18/01/2025 13:53

Definitely a line and not really what I would call faint, either. Even a hint of a line means you're pregnant, so you should assume that you are.

Charl97 · 18/01/2025 13:54

Thankyou both for your replies, with being the weekend it was making me really anxious and confused. Im going test again in the week and contact gp. I have 2 children already i just feel abit confused about the whole situation but not upset, i love my children but i did also suffer hg sickness really bad with both so didnt have good pregnancys with either.

i obviously thought it was my period on the 25th and was normal for me, if anything was slightly more red. can implantation bleeding be alot like a period? If it was my period i should be due on around about 23/24 so im not officially late as of yet.

That’s a strong positive and means your pregnant.

Theunamedcat · 18/01/2025 13:55

My morning after pill turns 25 this year I don't know why they haven't improved them

WellsAndThistles · 18/01/2025 13:59

Could you have fell pregnant a couple of weeks ago and thus isn't connected to December?

Bestwishes23 · 18/01/2025 13:59

Hi, OP. The MAP aims to delay ovulation, so wouldn't have worked if you had already ovulated. Is that something you track at all?

Porcuporpoise · 18/01/2025 14:00

Almost as though intervening with something as complex as the reproductive system without causing harm is difficult eh @Theunamedcat ?

Charl97 · 18/01/2025 14:01

Nope we have only had it from that date, that why the bleeding through me off i thought it had obviously worked at the time

LeBonBon · 18/01/2025 14:02

Yes sorry that is a really strong line!

I didn't know I was nearly 8 weeks pregnant with my DH because of a bleed that looked like a "normal period" for me. I started to get symptoms after that but didn't take a test until later and was shocked I got a 3+ weeks digital. I'm 24 weeks now.

There is no way to improve on 'if you've already ovulated, it's too late'! It works by delaying ovulation, so that's its limit.

If you've already ovulated and it doesn't work you can, of course, take the pills which will cause an abortion. Which is a different action totally from the purpose of the MAP.

Charl97 · 18/01/2025 14:05

Thankyou for your response, thats what i was thinking i would be around 7 weeks now as i wouldnt have to class my period in November as my last not the one i thought would be on december. Xx

A friend of mine didn't know she was pregnant until she gave birth! Neither did we!

She had periods the whole way through.

We had no idea what was wrong with her and suspected appendicitis but we'd been out drinking.

She went to hospital passed km middle of night and I swear they didn't take us seriously until she was actually giving birth.

And she didn't take them seriously as had no idea she was pregnant!

OP that's definitely a clear line. I'd be contacting midwife so you can start making any decisions you want to make.

OurChristmasMiracle · 18/01/2025 14:07

Yeah have to echo the others you are definitely pregnant. My youngest test looked similar if not a little lighter. He’s currently cuddled up with me watching Mickey Mouse.

BeMellowOchreZebra · 18/01/2025 14:08

That looks like a clear positive. I would take another test again now rather than wait as otherwise you'll feel anxious not knowing.

False positives are possible but rare - I got one in hospital of all places!

Charl97 · 18/01/2025 14:09

Is there anything i should be looking off for if my next tests are lighter or darker does this mean anything? I will test again today. X

Yikes! Like to think I would have noticed at some point, this being my second - I was so sick and now the bump is enormous 😆

@Charl97 would be very surprised if it were fainter. Can you get one of the Clearblue "how many weeks?" ones which might give you a clue like it did me?

Charl97 · 18/01/2025 14:13

I will try one of those. Never tried a clear blue before. So hopefully can give me a little bit more confirmation before i ring gp monday x

TheWonderhorse · 18/01/2025 14:16

OP I don't know if I've misunderstood and don't mean to worry you, but if it's possible you've been pregnant a while and having periods at the same time then contact a GP urgently. You need an accurate date so that you can make decisions, that's all.

I hope you're alright, I bet that was a shock!

AlbertAvocado · 18/01/2025 14:42

I'm sorry OP also agree that's pretty positive. I took the morning after pill after a split condom nearly 14 years ago and the result (or rather failure to result) is now a very healthy 13 year old! So it does happen.
