First of all I want you to say that no one deserves to be scammed and I’m sorry this woman lost money but come on, how naive does someone have to be to fall for this?

The photos are so poor that surely anyone with eyes can see they’re fake. And since when did a A+ celebs mum contact randoms on SM?

To seriously think Brad Pitt can’t afford medical treatment and needs money sent to his American doctors Turkish bank account - words fail me.

French woman faces online mockery after being conned out of £700,000 by fake Brad Pitt

AI-generated selfies of the 61-year-old actor were sent to the victim via social media as part of a year-long scam to con her out of money.

People do have to take a bit of responsibility for themselves.

It would be extremely naive for me to think that brad Pitt wants a relationship with me, a woman that he has never met.

And for me to then send him 700,000 pounds.

I understand this but it reminds me of a lady who used to come into our language school. She had learning difficulties and was very young and naive. A very sweet woman. And she told me about an American on an oil rig who wanted to marry her. She was so excited. I told her to contact the American embassy to make sure what he was telling her was legit (marriage stuff). She looked so sad but I really hope she did this.

I never have and I never will thanks .

I will never send money to anyone online.

I'm not a fool

So you can guarantee you'll never have a breakdown or develop dementia or a brain tumour? You'll never get into an accident that causes a brain injury or go in to any kind of cognitive decline? You know you'll never take medication that affects how your brain works?

Yep, okay then 😂

CaptainBeanThief · 18/01/2025 14:39

@Applecharm25
I never said people aren't entitled to their "opinion".
However, people are bending over backwards to take the absolute piss out of this woman. How about having abit of compassion and stop blaming her. She was clearly not in the right mind because as you said (quite rightly) I wouldn't fall for that.
So, that is just proving something significant must have been going on for her to do that.
How about stop judging until you find yourself in such a horrible situation.

GreenAlien · 18/01/2025 14:39

My dad got done by a romance scam. It was a very clever scam which involved him actually meeting who he thought was the person he was talking to. He is a clever man but was lonely. Luckily he didn't lose a lot but these people are extremely good at extracting money.

Not having empathy for people who fall for scams like this says more about you than them!

You do know the woman in this case didn't have dementia or a brain tumour, yes?

And you do know that when people develop dementia they usually go into a care home, and are not in charge of their bank accounts . Yes?
Power of attorney of their bank accounts goes to their next of kin.

No I'll judge all I want, thanks.

Some of these women need to be called out on their ridiculous behaviour.

The heart eats lies when it's hungry.

These scammers are godawful human beings. The shame lies with them.

Can you explain why exactly we should have empathy for a total stranger?

She had responsibility for her actions.

Youre the knob.

And You didn't answer the question.

I said to you "I'm brad Pitt. I'm having cancer treatment. Send me 50,000 pounds now to my Turkish bank account".

Would you send it?

Edited

You know you're conveniently ignoring all the other reasons why someone could develop cognitive decline, yes?

And that people don't wake up one day with diagnosed dementia or a brain tumour and get treatment straight away, yes?

And that even when they are diagnosed, many of them still have free access to their finances for a considerable period of times, yes?

Hmm
CaptainBeanThief · 18/01/2025 14:47

@Applecharm25
No I wouldn't, which I round about explained when I first quoted.
You are the one quoting everyone being a weirdo so I beg to differ 🤣

I wonder why you think that everyone has to have the exact same opinion as you.

That's very egotistical.

This is a discussion board. Everyone has different opinions

I'm sorry about your dad. It's so much easier to fall for these things than people can imagine.

Reading your post made me think about that recent advert on the TV 'Elder'. It worried me from first time I saw it. An agency freelancing 'carers' to go and live in a family home. The advert was an elderly gentleman being looked after, at home, by a young (30s-ish) woman. Buttering him up about his guitar playing...

I thought then, what on earth could go wrong?

So now you've called me a dick and a knob.

You're very aggressive. And you're throwing out insults.

Yet you are telling other people to have empathy for others. So other people should be kind and have empathy. But it's ok for you to call people names.

Hmm.

GreenAlien · 18/01/2025 14:58

@LyingWitchInTheWardrobe I thought the exact same thing! I also saw a programme on TV about younger women who deliberately befriend older men to get their inheritances when they die which I imagine is a story older than time.

Choccyscofffy · 18/01/2025 14:58

Oh God I couldn’t read that. What’s the equivalent of cringing for someone when they have lost £700k. I would feel sick.

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 18/01/2025 14:59

🤣🤣 oh god god that picture. Its like it was done with the Windows 95 paintbrush! I thought AI was meant to be accurate.

Brad Pitt romance scam
ArtTheClown · 18/01/2025 15:00

I never hear about it with men? Generally I don't think men "fall in love" in that manner. They usually just want sex and make sure they're getting it before handing over money

It's men as well. I mentioned the Catfished channel on youtube, and about half the cases are men. Some are very lonely and naive. With others, especially the older ones, there's ego at play thinking a hot young thing is madly in love with them.

But hand over money they do.

Extreme loneliness, learning difficulties, mental health issues. Each in isolation leaves a person vulnerable to being scammed but if someone has 2 or even all 3 I can see how they would fall victim to these evil people. Let's put the shame where it belongs, with the scammers.

I pointed out your utter hypocrisy of you telling other people to have empathy for others, and then you go on to be nasty and hurl insults at people on here.

Everyone else should have empathy for others, except you. Lol. You're funny.

No I won't go away .

diddl · 18/01/2025 15:07

I think it's hard to believe as most people know that Brad Pitt wouldn't either contact them or ask them for money.
