Just that really!! Inspired by thinking if I could afford to move abroad. I suppose age helps as well as you’d expect to be worth more the older you are!!

Anyone can lie but I genuinely haven’t. assets come from my husband dying and him having a 9 x death in service payment which allowed me to be mortgage free, albeit on a £1m house which we bought for £440k many years ago

The children’s money comes from their late grandfather and they inherited as their dad didn’t

ultimately we have a comfortable life but from unfortunate circumstances. What it means is that their standard of living hasn’t changed since their dad died and that makes a difficult situation a tiny bit easier

I'm off to count the pennies in my jar 😂 might have an extra 50 quid.

Rosesgrowonyou · 17/01/2025 22:20

People lie on the internet. Anyone with any sense knows that.

true

but I just have to check the price of properties recently sold in my area. It doesn't tell me if they are cash buyer or have a mortgage, but you need a pretty decent income to qualify for high mortgages.

Not everyone is poor in this country.

depends how much I can sell the kids for

My eldest said I would probably get more if I sold an organ 😂

Taxbreaks · 17/01/2025 22:35

So, the poor folks here are short on funds but don't need to consult a small army of bankers, lawyers and accountants to make big changes in their lives.
A few of the wealthy have enough liquidity to drop out of their current life for a year or two but are tied to assets - even fun ones - and can't be nearly as spontaneous.
... and yet curiously, the grass is always greener ...

Whotenanny · 17/01/2025 22:36

I think around £360k.

Anyone want to buy my boat? 😅⛵

I find the best way to take MN wealth threads is with a huge pinch of salt.

Why do you waste your time looking at them then if you think everyone is lying?

Tiredofnonsense80 · 17/01/2025 22:37

I do know that. But I don't believe all the high earners in the UK post on MN. A very small minority maybe.

CreationNat1on · 17/01/2025 22:38

1.5 million

Any chance you have £11,999.80 behind the sofa to add to your kind offer? 😜

Lovelysummerdays · 17/01/2025 22:40

I’m 44 around 300k, vast majority is tied up in the house.

My net worth are the people that surround me, as they are my riches, therefore priceless

But your boat is tiny ⛵ 😂

Viviennemary · 17/01/2025 22:40

These threads are a bit silly. Sensible wealthy folk don't usually disclose and boast about how much money they've got.

Slavetomycat · 17/01/2025 22:41

Just had my financial advisor provide this number, and surprisingly it's 3.4m. That's between DH and I, and we are 66. All in trust for DS and DGS's.

Second happiest day of my life when I bought my boat ... 😉

Uta100 · 17/01/2025 22:41

500k plus a pension that’s worth around 800k.

But you know what they always said about the difference between Mumsnet and Netmums?
30k a year and a post grad qualification.
Originally Mumsnet was aimed at a fairly wealthy professional demographic. It's only in later years that loads of other people turned up insisting that no-one in the country actually earns more than minimum wage, and if they say they do they're lying .

NeedWineNow · 17/01/2025 22:43

Me and DH are 62 and 71 respectively.

House (no mortgage) - about £325,000
Combined pensions - £350,000
Liquid assets in bank, building society, ISA (between us) - around £19,000
Belongings - probably around £15,000

Actually doesn't look too bad when you set it down like that. I appreciate we are very lucky to be relatively secure

My grandfather - father of ten - always said that he'd invested in stock not shares.
