To think talking to 15 sperate people in a day isn't really that many?

I've seen a meme going round Facebook three times now. Apparently the average number of different people a person talks out loud to in a day is 15.

The comment section is always full of people saying they don't speak to anywhere near that amount of people in a day and some quite horrified by the mere idea of it.

But on three separate occasions, I think I have had fairly quiet days and each time my number has been between 12-18. Is 15 really very much??!!

My husband and both of my kids
my daughter's teacher
the lady in tesco express
Another mum I saw in tesco express
3 separate customers
my supplier
Two different people on the phone about a bill
A taxi driver

Total: 13

I've only left the house to do school runs and pop to tesco express while out.

So... how many people do you speak to in a day? For the purpose of the experiment, online or messages does not count. It needs to be spoken out loud.

Most days I speak to DP, DS and approx 20 people on Teams calls.

Today has been full on and I’ve spoken to DP, DS, 12 people in the office and approx 50 people on Teams.

I’m totally peopled out.

Similar experience here, @fudgesmummy - though in my case it is long covid and weight related mobility issues.

Lies posted by people you actually know and are friends with? If so, it's the friends who are the problem!

I probably get to that figure if I have gone to one of my support groups, and then gone to the shops.
Some days I speak to no one at all apart from my mum on the phone.

I've only spoken to my cat today 😹 Live alone and not been out.

Today - my husband, two kids, checkout lady at Aldi, my Mum, my Step-Dad. That’s it, so 6? At a day when I’m at work it’ll be loads even if I’m wfh I have loads of teams chats. I am quite lonely atm and definitely someone who thrives on social interactions so I’m not surprised that when the number is low I’m also low.

Today lspoke to 5 work colleagues, 2 shop assistants, one bus driver and my DP...so 9.
Probaley my average day, unless at a social event.

If I have multiple meetings at work I will hit 15. I will be utterly exhausted and struggle to meet my family responsibilities in the evening. It is far too much conversation for one day.

I have ASD.

Just counted and I have spoken to 15 people today. I’d also say I’ve had a quiet day not doing much really, been at home mostly, popped to 2 shops and then to a friends house briefly to drop something off.

I wfh a lot so it depends on how many deliveries my partner is expecting - 15 a day is not unheard of.

I suppose it depends who you are counting.

I was out this morning (sports event) and I'd say I 'spoke to' 7 people, as in had at least a short conversation with them, but I also said something along the lines of 'Good Morning' or 'Happy New Year' (1st fixture that hasn't been cancelled) to probably at least that number again. Do they count ?

But, this evening, I've had a long Facetime with one of my dds. She isn't here, in person, but we could see each other and we spoke for 30mins or so. So, does that count ?

Does it count if you address a comment at a whole group of people (eg, "Well played girls") ? Can you count them all ?

Or does it count if you <ahem> advise the ref ? So more 'shouting at' than 'speaking to' (I mean, not me of course, but some other people might have...).

I won’t speak to 15 in a week. More like 6 max.

Sometimes it is just DS (18) as I work from home.

I’m purposefully avoiding people at the moment. However, illness took me to A & E, then I had to interact with many medical staff. The universe had other plans for me 😂
