To not want to interact with a AI bot?

chicken2015 · 10/01/2025 19:33

I'm just curious if anyone is bothered if there are computer generated ai bots that reply to threads or start threads on mumsnet?
Is this something that bothers people , do they expect their is a human at end of every interaction?
Just edited to say I have no idea if there are ai bots on mumsnet, just curious

You are being unreasonable- I don't mind interacting with computer generated ai bots
You are not being unreasonable - I want to interact with humans only.

Hmm, I don't know really. If there were no real people posting on a thread, I guess that would feel strange, but even if there is one AI bot, then if all the other posters are real, then there is still real communication between people going on. Also, some people find writing hard and there are plenty of posters waiting to jump on any mistakes made, so if they use chatgpt or similar to help write what they want to say, then I don't have a problem with that. Even though the language may seem a little lacking in the human touch, the person behind it is real.

blacksax · 10/01/2025 19:43

You already have a thread in Site Stuff about this, and you've now started another one.

If conversing with AI bots is really bothering you that much, then perhaps would it be best, on the whole, for you to avoid internet forums & chat rooms?

Bernardscheesyhat · 10/01/2025 19:46

I agree with you I was drawn in to arguing on a thread here the other day but when I reflected on it, some of the posters’ views were so consistent and also kind of weird, I think they were actually bots. It shouldn’t happen on here and there must be ways to stop it.

RaininSummer · 10/01/2025 19:54

Well I don't want to waste my time talking to a bot so I wouldn't be happy about that.

SevenWeeks · 10/01/2025 19:56

AI is far too polite and agreeable to thrive on MN 😃

Letsgetalong · 10/01/2025 20:09

Call me naive, but how can you tell if a poster is a bot? I have never seen a post that I suspected of being started by one but can imagine it does happen sometimes.

CruCru · 10/01/2025 20:11

I get cross when someone writes a post using Chat GBT (and don't reply).

It's a very good question I think this is one of the problems, how can people report bots if we don't actually know 100% if they are.

Is AI intelligent enough to pick threads, and construct posts? I have seen bot posts on Reddit, but that they are more automatic responses to someone using keywords in their OP.
Someone being lazy and using ChatGPT to construct a reply is different.

KnightsTemplar00 · 10/01/2025 20:19

if i made a thread, if it was open to interpretation or no right or wrong answer eg different experiences or views then i would prefer all human responses

if it was more factural thread and i wanted eg set information then what would matter is accuracy and factural information , that type of thread id expect some to use Ai

i think part of the issue with some threads is some people just enjoy chatting but while that does not always answer the ops question it can lead to derailng the thread, so i think again some can use Ai to keep the thread on point because without the original thread title then there can be no conversation even if it derails a thread.

I dont know , I've asked mumsnet if they know of bots using mumsnet and I'm still waiting to hear back. And yes I agree lazy people using chatgpt is different

I was using the EE chat facility this week and it's AI and they ask you how your day is every time. It's so annoying because I'm too busy to tell a robot how my day is.

but some people would then argue as long as its accurate why is it lazy to use ai if eg they have dyslexia etc and also it some times prevents a thread being de railed because it answers the ops thread point rather than chatting around the ops thread and not actually answering the original question etc as is the case with some posters on the ops other thread

TY78910 · 10/01/2025 20:24

I'd be disappointed if there were bots on MN because I come here to interact with people.

Businesses though, as long as the bot is damn good and resolves my query then I'm all for it. It's a great little innovation as the business can save on hiring and training a customer service team. If the bot is shit and loops and loops then I have no time for this

Imperrysmum · 10/01/2025 20:25

Nah. Turns out they train it on the internet and it turns racist and misogynist almost instantly. Rubbish in - rubbish out.

If all the tech bros are white, male, incel types so is AI.

You miss my point. It is possible to be polite and agreeable, yet racist/misogynistic. AI always remains polite and agreeable. If someone was spouting racist bile on here, it would say "You've made some excellent points" -and then it would say exactly the same to the next poster who came on to dispute the points.

However, generally that is not the Mumsnet style of discourse. AI will never tell you you're talking bollocks or suggest you FOTTFSOF. It will always remain charming and amiable - like the best movie villains!

Because it is not the views of the poster... it is just AI generated.
If someone wants to know something factual, they can Google it and look at the AI generated stuff that appears first.
On MN, people tend to want to know opinions and experiences. You don't get that from AI.

SnowballSandwich · 10/01/2025 22:36

I don't see AI posts as any different to trolls.
