4 people in one hotel room

I'm trying to book a night in a hotel near Manchester airport and am baffled to find that the only way for our family of 4 (2 adults, an 8 year old and a 4 year old) to do this seems to be to get a room with 2 double beds. It's sometimes a proper double bed and a double sofa bed on offer, sometimes 2 full double beds. I don't understand how we're supposed to arrange ourselves - I get that there are technically 4 spaces in the beds but who wants it as two doubles rather than a double and two singles?! I had similar problems before booking in Edinburgh and in Germany. AIBU to think that most people booking 4 people in a room would want 1 double and 2 singles instead of 2 doubles or am I missing something?

Try calling the hotel, doubles are often two single beds that can be pulled apart.

But if not, the kids can share surely?

PlannerG · 05/01/2025 10:28

We've always booked 2 doubles, never even entered my head that it was an issue.

Thelondonone · 05/01/2025 10:29

We stay like this all the time and mine are 12 and 15. It’s better for the hotel…

MauveVelcro · 05/01/2025 10:29

I don't understand how we're supposed to arrange ourselves

It's one night, not a month. Adults in one bed, dc in another. Or one adult and one dc per bed.

Premier Inns always have one double and two singles (one permanent, one pull out) ime.

wlv12 · 05/01/2025 10:29

A family room in a premier inn gets you a double and 2
singles - we’ve stayed in ones near Manchester airport before flying out as a family of 4. Basic but does the job!

Woahtherehoney · 05/01/2025 10:29

Struggling to see the issue here as to why for one night the kids can’t share or you do one adult, one child in each bed?

Eldermillenialyogi · 05/01/2025 10:30

Surely the kids can share

SleepingStandingUp · 05/01/2025 10:30

Why can't your kids share? Or given you'll not be having sex anyway, you can do one night but in the same bed as your partner?

But also yes, they're usually two singles pushed together, just speak to the hotel

TheGhostOfTheYearYetToCome · 05/01/2025 10:30

Premier inn family . Double bed, single bed, and single child's bed (it isn't as sturdy as a normal single)

Whaleandsnail6 · 05/01/2025 10:30

We have used this configuration a lot for our family, right from the kids being small to them now being teens.

When they wee smaller, an adult and child in a bed, now the teens share, usually having put a pillow buffer between them 🤣

NerrSnerr · 05/01/2025 10:30

We often stay in rooms like this, we go in one bed and the kids in the other. I don't see what the issue is?

NerrSnerr · 05/01/2025 10:31

We often stay in premier inn family rooms too and it's always been two doubles, I'm not sure we've had one with two singles.

I thought that was Travelodge and Premiere Inn was sometimes singles, sometimes doubles. But it’s been a while since I booked one

Pamosonic · 05/01/2025 10:33

I can see where you are coming from but it's not a deal breaker for me. As long as the beds are comfortable, the room is clean and quiet those are the most pressing things for me.

JMSA · 05/01/2025 10:33

For one night, I wouldn't care.

We stay twice a month in PI and have only had that set up, tbh we would prefer two doubles as the second single isn't as good as the kid gets older. They would do as PP said and build a pillow wall 😂

DappledThings · 05/01/2025 10:34

Seems pretty standard to me. I've booked a room just for me and DD next month and it's just a double. Had a triple room with both DC last summer and I shared the double with one child and the other had the single.

It might not be the absolute ideal but it's not even a tiny bit of a deal. I don't get your angst about it.

Is it floor space maybe? 2 singles need .ore room sround them, unless they are squished in a corner.

ToKittyornottoKitty · 05/01/2025 10:35

Kids share and adults share, or if the kids can’t share then each adult shares with the kid. I can’t see a big issue! You could book 2 twin rooms and each sleep with a kid in a different room, seems like a waste of money though.

Funfuninthesunsun · 05/01/2025 10:36

Grown ups share one bed, the kids share another. Unless it's two friends with a child each in which case the parent and child would share.

We've had a premier inn room which was a double, a sofa bed and a pull out trundle bed which was fun until I forgot there was a child asleep right by my feet and I tripped over them. I prefer two doubles tbh.

Livelaughlurgy · 05/01/2025 10:36

You're making an assumption that most people are like you or that hotels should cater for different configurations rather than the most common demoninator. What about two adults sharing who want seperate beds? A double and two singles would be a pain.

Arseynal · 05/01/2025 10:36

I don’t understand how you can’t figure it out. Who are you sharing a room with that you can’t sleep in the same bed as?

How can you be baffled if its happened before in Germany and Edinburgh. Phone the hotel or put the kids in together they will cope

It's common. We have often booked a family room with two doubles and our children either shared the bed together or one shared with each of us.

Other family rooms we've had on occasion have had only one single with optional cot.

Can't recall having a double bed with two singles anywhere - in Europe, UK or US - but my memory might be at fault.
