Especially if they're those annoying flashy ones. Just stop already.

Tree was down yesterday but lights will stay up a lot longer. I'm debating on leaving the string of fairy lights up at the window too. Remember that miserable Covid winter and loads of people left lights up ages after Christmas, made everything slightly more cheerful.

Is it?

Do they have to be on ALL night?

Yes - up pretty late really, and the epiphany is the traditional date to take them down (or maybe the day after, can't remember). Have to keep the crib up until the wise men arrive!

They don't need to flash all night but that's a different issue and the time to deal with that was with a friendly word on 15 Dec.

Yeah sorry mine stay up till twelfth night too, flashy bastards.

Hot cross buns in Sainsburys today :-(

Most places sell them all year these days

They don't have to be on all night though do they

whats it to you?

RollerSkateLikePeggy · 05/01/2025 09:34

Have you asked your neighbour to turn them off overnight?

Nannyfannybanny · 05/01/2025 09:35

There's nothing religious about flashing lights. You can get hot cross buns all year now. Ours come down New Years Day.

IvyOrangesCandles · 05/01/2025 09:36

In my view it's legitimate to do exactly what I want.
I put mine up later then most and love going into a grey cold January wrapped in my Christmas cocoon.

midgetastic · 05/01/2025 09:40

Why the hec shouldn't lights still be on?

Not that I am a fan of the flashing ones but really there is no law that is being broken

MummaMummaMumma · 05/01/2025 09:43

How is it hurting you?
My lights, and tree, are still up and flashing away.
The kids love it.
It's Christmas time in our house until we are back to school and work Monday.

Arseynal · 05/01/2025 09:44

I keep mine up for the whole of Christmas but they don’t flash. My neighbours house is like a police car but I have curtains. Idk why you have started a thread saying they should come down before the end of Christmas when what you really mean is they shouldn’t be on all night or flash at any point. Why is in all night and flashing ok on dec 27th but not on Jan 3rd?

Pumpkincozynights · 05/01/2025 09:44

12th night. That’s when decorations come down.

Because I'm counting down the days until they're off! I put up with them over Christmas as I'm not a complete scrooge.

It is hurting me by creating an annoying flashing in our house that comes round the edge of the black out curtains during the night.

Keep your cocoon inside your own house?

One does not simply ask these neighbours to do anything. They are not those kind of neighbours.

I have outside ones up all year, they don't flash and I don't leave on all night but they were on until 1.20am when I got home from the pub.

But it’s Christmas right now

Superhansrantowindsor · 05/01/2025 09:49

Perhaps you need thicker curtains? I love all the twinkly lights. They brighten up a miserable time of year.

DuesToTheDirt · 05/01/2025 09:50

Mine come down on 12th night, it's not that I can't be bothered. Hmm

CamelByCamel · 05/01/2025 09:50

If what you actually want is a discussion about overnight flashing lights OP, I'd start a new thread. Everyone is going to keep telling you how ridiculous you are to expect lights down when it's still Christmas.

sushibelt · 05/01/2025 09:48

If you'd started a thread about having shit neighbours you probably would've had a lot of sympathy.

Complaining about Christmas decorations during the traditional Christmas period was never going to be a winner.

They're blackout. They come round the edges all flashy

Got everything taken down yesterday😥I just need to get it all taken upstairs and stored away now. Lights are still up outside though, and will be until we get drier weather 🤔 Nb I always take everyday photos and ornaments down before we Christmas decorate. Happy New Year everyone
