Especially if they're those annoying flashy ones. Just stop already.

Delphiniumandlupins · 04/01/2025 23:17

Mine are up till we finish the mince pies

Neveragain8102 · 04/01/2025 23:17

Mine will stay up until I take them down.

It's a tree in my lounge - my curtains are mainly closed.

I'm afraid I can't muster enough energy to care if this bothers you enough or not - I like it.

NewDogOwner · 04/01/2025 23:18

We are actively enjoying our lights.

Wellineverdidbuy · 04/01/2025 23:20

Love the lights, like it's not miserable enough as it is in January

Hot cross buns in Sainsburys today :-(

You can buy hot cross buns all year round.
DH takes two to work for lunch every day.

I leave mine up till March. They aren't Christmas themed though tbf. Just coloured lights.
I take down anything that's specifically Christmas themed next week.
But I leave up the nice lights for the whole of the winter.

Me too! My Xmas tree becomes a winter tree

IvyOrangesCandles · 04/01/2025 23:21

Candle mas

GreyBlackBay · 04/01/2025 23:25

Happy to take down general decorations but I love the lights, I'll be switching them off tomorrow though.

I'm sad the guy over the road has taken them off the huge tree in his garden today. It was truly beautiful and lifted my spirits.

CamelByCamel · 04/01/2025 23:26

It's still Christmas. Don't be ridiculous.

Allswellthatendswelll · 04/01/2025 22:56

We CAN leave the Christmas lights up until January! 😜

And this is our place. We make the rules! Wink

CorduroySituation · 05/01/2025 01:24

The true Christmas season is the 12 days of Christmas until Epiphany.

So you're wrong OP.

I'm going to turn my lights on to extra flashy tomorrow just in case you're my neighbour.

Hufflemuff · 05/01/2025 01:37

I blame SM and bloody Americans in general for this idea that lights need to go up on November and come down on boxing day!

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 05/01/2025 01:41

Yanbu I took mine down on the third, and turned them off the day before

sorry meant to quote OP, dont know how I managed to quote you instead. Mine dont flash though

HauntedBungalow · 05/01/2025 01:45

People can do as they please with their lights. As long as they aren't shoving them up the king's arse or strangling puppies with them or similar of course, but otherwise they are free to have Xmas lights on all year round

Choccyscofffy · 05/01/2025 01:45

It’s dark, cold and snowing.

Let people have their twinkly lights if they want.

LadyWiddiothethird · 05/01/2025 01:55

Not coming down until the 6th.This year our entire street is still lit up,it’s fantastic.

QuestionableMouse · 05/01/2025 01:58

Honestly I'm really enjoying seeing them still. It's so dark and gloomy, having a few lights up makes the world a bit more cheerful.

Hot cross buns in Sainsburys today :-(

They sell them all year round now!

DD used to be really fussy but she likes hot cross buns, so we used to buy them a lot.

Readinstead · 05/01/2025 02:13

My neighbours put Christmas decorations up on 1st November, complete with flashy lights, flashy santas and reindeers and they were on all day - it was lovely and I missed them when they took them down on the 28th. We put our decorations up on 21st December and dh added flashy lights in the window on the 23rd, they will all be taken down on twelfth night and I will miss them.

BMW6 · 05/01/2025 02:15

Foolish OP 😁

Notfastjustfurious · 05/01/2025 02:20

My neighbour took down her outdoor lights yesterday and plunged us into darkness. Keep them twinkly until the light nights are back - have Christmas every day Slade said. (Not really, a couple of lights are nice though)

NattyTurtle59 · 05/01/2025 02:48

I have fairy lights in my yard, put there by my neighbour, and while they were hardly on at all over Christmas he sometimes has them on for months at a time, at any time of year. It doesn't bother me in the slightest. How does it affect you?

Mummyoflittledragon · 05/01/2025 02:56

I always leave my decorations up well into January. In the past, I’ve left them up until February. January is a horrible month. I since found out about Candlemass as I’m not religious but it looks as if I was doing it right all along. But we don’t have flashing outside lights. Those are really annoying. I’d rather they were on or off. Have you asked your neighbours?

I blame SM and bloody Americans in general for this idea that lights need to go up on November and come down on boxing day!

It's the same with Christmas songs - shops and radio stations start playing them from the middle of November, but come Boxing Day, they've vanished.

I do enjoy many of them, but it's irritating hearing Noddy Holder screaming "Iiiiiit's Chriiiiiiistmaaaaaaas!" when it isn't actually Christmas at all for another 4 weeks. I'd still take Noddy any day over Michael Buble, mind!
