For this to give me the ick

My DP has taken to coming into the house and immediately changing into scruffy trackie bottoms and a hoody (very same style). He wears exactly the same thing every single day unless at work (shifts so not everyday) or we specifically go out somewhere nice. It’s starting to really grate on me and give me the ick, but he says that I am being unreasonable and trying to start an argument. AIBU?

Are the trackies really worn, holes, falling apart? If so I don't think it's particularly scruffy. Many people wear trackies day to day outside the house. If it's the style you dislike, could you show him a set you like and encourage him to buy it.
Just like 'i know you like trackies indoors and these would look really nice on you'.
To me people should be comfortable at home. As long as clothes are clean then there's no issue.
I presume you wouldn't like him dictating what you wore?

Yes at one point they did have holes in them etc but he has bought new ones now (although this felt like a battle!)

I will accept AIBU!

I bought DH some trackies that I like much more than his previous ones.

That helped me a lot.

Balancedcitizen101 · 04/01/2025 19:20

Key thing here is maybe are they getting washed reasonably regularly for their realistic use? It sounds like they're not? I voted YANBU on the basis of it sounding like the clothes are not washed often enough. You have to put some effort in, in a relationship, with your bad smelling clothes.

But (for example) would you change into your trackers after shipping at lunchtime then rechange when going out later on? Maybe IABU !

Yep if I had to go back out. Not if I was just nipping up the shop. What job does he do ?

Yes

Ickickick25 · 04/01/2025 19:25

Honestly I am really surprised so many people get ready and dressed then changed back into loungewear in the middle of the day if they are going to go out later in the day! Clearly I am the odd one but that wouldn’t occur me to get into loungewear until I had finished going out unless doing something particularly smelly like someone mentioned cleaning out animals.

Get him some stylish lounge wear. That would have made a good Christmas present. Men can look hot if it’s clean and stylish.

Am I the only one who doesn't understand what shipping at lunchtime means?

Ickickick25 · 04/01/2025 19:34

Sorry I meant to say shopping
so would you go shopping at lunchtime then change into loungewear then change again to go out later the afternoon ?

Yes.
It's pretty normal for a lot of people who work outside of the house.
And while working at home I often stay in my comfies.

I've found this thread really reassuring because I thought it was just me who did this! I love my comfy home clothes even though I look like a little flump in them, and minimise the amount of time I wear anything else! So thanks for the thread, OP! Hope you don't get too strong an ick

Moier · 04/01/2025 19:49

As long as they are clean ones every day... can't see the problem.
I wear clean comfies every day. Change when I'm going out.

KnoblesseOblige · 04/01/2025 19:54

@MrsTerryPratchett don't suppose you have a link to these interesting sounding Japanese trackies please? Currently sitting in distinctly uninteresting normal trackies 😅

harriethoyle · 04/01/2025 19:57

I’m with you @Ickickick25 - we both wear day clothes until pre-bed shower unless unwell and that includes a post work change out of a suit etc

Yep! Do that regularly.

BobbyBiscuits · 04/01/2025 20:00

@Ickickick25 Thank you. Just realised I made a typo, of course I meant if they're NOT like that then it isn't scruffy. Lol.

But you can get lovely comfy trackies that are appealing looking. Maybe you should embrace it and get matching ones! 🤣

My dad just walked around in the 'dressing gown of doom' and nothing else for his entire life post retirement. So it could be worse!

EveryOtherNameTaken · 04/01/2025 20:10

Normal to me.

Maybe you should have bought him a second set you like for Christmas 😂

Yes! Glad I’m not alone! I would feel like I was off sick if I was wearing my scruffs in the middle of the day 😆

My poor mother spent most of my childhood fighting me over me refusing to change out my "nice clothes". I now very much live in comfies as soon as I step through the house door. Your question about popping out shopping... I don't change to go shopping. I step out in trackies and a hoodie and then put something nicer on if going out in the afternoon.

I was looking at Kidoriman but ended up getting generic Japanese, drop-crotch, linen tracky bums. They have nice leather tips on the strings. Just a little up from normal slouchy clothes.

lovemycbf · 05/01/2025 00:42

Kindly I think you're being ridiculous,if you can't wear what you want when you want in your own home then something is wrong.
As soon as I'm indoors I change my clothes for comfort
If something as simple as this gives you the ick then god help your poor husband

NoCarbsForMe · 05/01/2025 10:02

Just buy him some "loungewear" you like op.

MagpiePi · 05/01/2025 10:07

The terms ‘comfies’, ‘scruffs’ and ‘trackie bums’ are all giving me the ick… 😂

You should live where I live. People here go shopping in their lounge wear. Onesie and slippers in the chippie and everything 🤦‍♂️
