To wonder if 'Big Food' are up in arms about weight loss injections?

I've just finished reading Ultra Processed People (great book!) and the realisation that so much processed food is irresistible because they literally design it to be has got me thinking - are the companies that make our favourite salty snacks, fizzy drinks, ready meals, processed foods etc concerned about how many people are using the weight loss injections?

I'm not on the injections myself but a couple of family members are and they are amazed by how the food noise is quietened and they don't crave all this stuff anymore. They are just giving their bodies what they objectively need rather than what they crave. It's a game changer really!

But what are the big food companies thinking? Anyone have any inside info?!

i mean this gently but reread your post. There was no kindness or compassion there, in fact the opposite.

Actually I have reread it and I think it was appropriate. I'm recovering from an eating disorder and I am bored of hearing from people like this.
There is absolutely no dishonor in getting help with things you don't have control over.
The post I replied to was horrible and smug
There are much kinder ways of saying use this time to re-educate your palate .
The post I replied to was patronising in the least and frankly arrogant.

I feel we will need to agree to disagree

I do hope these companies are worried
From USA news it seems use of weight loss drugs has reduced profits for some.

Id personally like huge taxes on all UPFs to get them off the shelves tbh. Some of that tax money could support the nhs

Both DH and I work for FMCG companies which have food categories (and include snacking categories). This is of no interest whatsoever as far as I’m aware - it hasn’t even been discussed. At least not in our roles which have global scope. I suppose it might be being discussed at a regional level. But it’s not in any of the reading material I’ve seen coming from them.

It would be very short sighted of them to not be considering a potential impact.

Suspect it will remain like that until there is an impact. Most of these companies also have healthy or protein options. They will also know their demographics.

Big food will cash in on the demand for special meals for WLI clients

Go and look in any UK supermarket and the fashionable high protein foods and shakes are there.

Big food won't be up in arms until people start eating cabbage and lentils. Let's face it, even then they will just sell you something with added psyllium husk.
