Anyone used a she-wee?

Nc for this but long term poster - MN can verify etc.

Since having my youngest child (and probably just getting older generally) I, like many other women, need to pee. A lot. Mornings are the worst especially if I dare to have a cup of tea or coffee which I never do if I have to travel somewhere or have a work meeting. But I still have to pee a lot regardless.

I have a 10 year old son who plays football competitively and this means a lot of early starts and long drives to clubs which mostly do have toilet facilities, but many are just fields in the middle of nowhere. I find the anxiety and uncertainty of the toilet availability along with the travel makes me need to go more. On many occasions I've had to drop him off and frantically drive around looking for a supermarket or McDonald's in an unfamiliar town which is very stressful.

So I was trying to think of other options. Considered a camping toilet but where would you actually put it to go? The car park? Not very discreet. Considered also a she wee but again, you'd have to find somewhere to use it. And I don't understand how you'd be able to use it without pulling your pants and trousers down a fair bit. Are they worth having for someone in my situation? Any tips appreciated.

my tip: test it out in the shower first and get familiar with it before trying it in the wild.
and be careful on any windy days!

TimeForTeaAndG · 03/01/2025 23:37

Probably a better plan would be to check on Google map for the nearby supermarkets etc rather than finding them once you get there.

alibongo5 · 03/01/2025 23:38

I have used a she wee but not in the circumstances you describe. As you say, you still have to find somewhere discreet to use it. I don't think one will help in the circumstances you describe although it might be useful to have for emergencies - but practice using it in advance as it takes a bit o getting used to!

MymblesMother · 03/01/2025 23:38

Have you looked at Kiddiwhizz? They have an adult version; it's better than a shewee imo as it collects the urine so you could use it discretely in the car and tip away later on.
I have both and a shewee definitely takes practice (in the shower) to get the technique/angle right.

TomorrowTodayYesterday · 03/01/2025 23:46

If you put 'toilet' into Google maps it will bring up any public toilets near your location which might be useful if there's no supermarkets/cafes around.

Also just wanted to empathise - I'm exactly the same. I reckon I could drink a vat of coffee at home and be OK but the minute I leave the house I need to wee! It has to be psychosomatic.

I like the look of these but can't work out how you could wee into what is essentially a flask whilst sitting in a car?

Onlyvisiting · 03/01/2025 23:53

What about one of those boot tent/day shelter things? Then you could say it's for your ds to change/you to relax with a book whatever, but would be handy with a camping loo! There are a million choices in all price ranges, google tailgate shelter.
Or buy a van and put the toilet in the back ....

Maddy70 · 03/01/2025 23:56

Definitely practice first.......

MereDintofPandiculation · 03/01/2025 23:56

If you get a shee-wee, use an extension tube. Wear a pad so you do't worry about drips.

Personally, I'd wear a long warm skirt and slip, then you can squat discreetly and just move knickers aside and wee into a wide-necked bottle. Open front and back door of car and squat between them

caringcarer · 04/01/2025 00:00

I've got one in my car dashboard just in case I get caught up behind a car accident on the motorway. Sometimes the queue between 2 junctions comes to a standstill and there is no movement for over an hour or 2. I've never had to use it but glad I got it just in case. I also keep a couple bottles of water, first aid kit in my car too.

GreetingCeridwen · 04/01/2025 00:01

I use a shewee for long walks, hiking etc. agree that it takes a bit of practice, but they are actually marvellous and really do allow you to pee quite discretely. They are also great if there is a public toilet that's grubby (I have friends who swear by them for festivals). They're also just about the least bulky option.

TinnyTones · 04/01/2025 00:10

Look up a Travel John on Amazon 👌

kairi1 · 04/01/2025 00:14

I am able to use my shewee sat in the front passenger seat, sliding forward to the edge of the seat. It has taken some practice but it is possible.

RabbitsEatPancakes · 04/01/2025 00:17

I've used one for the rank loos at festivals.
Definitely practice in the shower and then in the garden. Weeing standing up and also in clothes is a hard mental block I found.
You just need to undo trousers and lower them and pants a bit. I found I works best if the back of it is touching me but the front is not-rather than just cupping it to my bits. You need to find what works for you and then it's easy.

Journeyintomelody · 04/01/2025 03:50

I used a shewee travelling - wrote my initials in the sand watching the sunrise in the saraha, the reckless teenager I was. Though it's a great memory, to be honest it's less faff and less messy just to just squat. I only used it the on that trip, purely for the fun factor.

First poster nailed it. If you do go decide to give it ago test in the shower and avoid on windy days!

Whattochoose1 · 04/01/2025 07:46

I find squatting easier than a shewee tbh (backpacker in my 20s)
That wee bag @SkaterGrrrrl posted looks great though!

Just as an aside have you been to a pelvic health physio? amazing humans, helped me so much after the birth of my first child, no time limit on when you can seek some help either.

Unrelated38 · 04/01/2025 07:51

Absolutely not in the situation you describe. You can't pee in a Bush at your kids football practise.
Use Google maps to find the nearest toilet before you go. Drop him off, go to the toilet and go back to watch him.

But for shewees, practise in the shower. Don't pee too fast or it doesn't go down the funnel fast enough and spills out the top. Wear zip trousers so you have better access

Birdseyetrifle · 04/01/2025 07:51

How old are you? I found oestrogen fanny tabs made a huge difference and drinking decaf tea instead of normal.

She wees are great, just need to practice.

bryceQ · 04/01/2025 07:53

Have you thought about seeing a pelvic physio specialist?

Kiwi09 · 04/01/2025 07:58

This sounds like it’s having a big impact on your life and understandably causing anxiety. Have you made an appointment to talk to your GP about this? There might be something you can do to improve the situation rather than just live with it.

Nordione1 · 04/01/2025 07:59

I'm going to investigate this she-we. I definitely have psychosomatic wee issues. I can be fine and then as soon as I realise I am somewhere where there is no loo nearby, I'm immediately desperate. Someone once told me that if you tell yourself firmly that you don't need the loo and you stop thinking about it you can stop the feeling amd train yourself rather than giving in to the wee every time. Sometimes that does work.

TotemPolly · 04/01/2025 08:02

I have one . It's ok for weeing outside , stood up on hikes or in the countryside . Great for unclean like as well as you can stand and wee into them.
What you are wearing can make a big difference , some trousers have to be slightly taken down so sort of defeats the reason you have it .
Never yet managed it sat down ( car seat , legs out of car etc )

TotemPolly · 04/01/2025 08:04

Unclean loos that should read ! Or better put - dirty ones !

As this poster has said it’s worth going to your GP.

I went last year for similar issues, I wake up 3/4 times a night for a wee - and can only go for about 1.5hrs without being desperate and it’s a full bladder that empties. It’s called having an overactive bladder. Essentially your bladder should hold X amount for say 4/6 hours, an overactive one the bladder thinks it’s full straight away. I’m mid 30’s , two children, no pelvic floor issues and no prolapses. Mine has got progressively worse since a child and has always been an issue.
It has a huge impact on my life, work life (emergency services).

The first GP I saw was okay, bladder diary and cut caffeine out - decaf everything. Tried bladder training -which I’m beyond .Prescribed some meds which made no difference. After a few med reviews I’ve been referred through to a consultant - had a bladder scan to make sure my bladder empties properly ( it does). Consultant is going to try me on a diff type of meds for a month, doing this three times. Then a review, if they work great- if not the next step is boxtox injections into my bladder.
