Lighthearted post

It seems alot of us are struggling with it being nye for a multitude of reasons.

I've had a very tough 2024 and I went into it in a very positive way. I try to be optimistic in all situations however this year has flawed me.
I've had some awful things happen to me this year , Ive read that alot of others have on here too.
I'm trying my hardest not to go into a depressive nye slump.
I'm on my own, my children are with thier father .
I was offered to go to friends parties this evening however I'm not in that frame of mind at all.
It's just me and the dog. I'm normally a content person but for some reason I'm triggered this evening amd can't shift it. I think maybe it's because I know one of the major life changing events that have happened to me in 2024 is going to be an ongoing thing that carries on to 2025 so it's hard to see it as a fresh start.

Anyway...... I said it would light hearted so please can I have recommendations of funny things to watch tonight on tv? Films , series anything?
I started the film new years eve with michelle phfiffer ( not sure if I've spelt that correctly)
I felt depressed very quickly watching it so turned it off .

I'm determined to go into 2025 with some positivity and some laughs

So come on fellow mumsnetters suggest something that's gonna put a big smile on my face tonight please 🙏 😀

For Radio 4 I just go on it online then search the schedule. Sunday’s episode - early afternoon was really funny x

Chimchar · 31/12/2024 22:30

We're watching singalong with Jane McDonald on ch5. It's terrible but we're enjoying! 😂

Gavin and Stacey is always a comfort to me.

Dawn French's stand up show is on soon on ch 4 I think.

As others have said, Ted lasso has the feel good factor.

I hope your night is ok and that 2025 is a better one for you x

I'm with the NYE is rubbish. I've spent the evening laminating lost cat posters. The cat going missing has just topped off a shit year.

I watched Grease earlier and it was a distraction. Dirty Dancing is also good to just forget about things. Same with Top Gun.

Ah I'm sorry. I hope they return soon.
I went through that last year and it was awful. They ended up coming home 3 days later - think they'd been locked in a garage accidentally!

RomeinApril · 31/12/2024 22:32

When Harry Met Sally is just starting now on BBC Three 👌🏼

XChrome · 31/12/2024 22:33

Have you seen Borat Subsequent Movie Film yet? There is one particular scene where I laughed so hard I was doubled over with tears in my eyes. I won't give spoilers. You'll know it when you see it.
Plus it puts across an anti-misogyny message in a humorous way.

SlashBeef · 31/12/2024 22:33

Benidorm is my go-to, over and over. It's absolute nonsense but I just adore it, particularly the first 6 seasons.

EarlyBird12345 · 31/12/2024 22:34

Forgot about Rev IM Jolly’s last call. The first one I clicked on was his actual last call, so now I’ve got a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes.

I'm watching What We Do In The Shadows on Disney. It's actually way funnier than I was expecting!

If you have Audible or fancy starting a free trial, Green Wing has returned for one series in audiobook form. All the main people came back for it and it’s really good!

I loved precilla , what's strictly ballroom on?

Currently on prime video

Stepfordian · 31/12/2024 22:50

Rivals is brilliant, a bit rude and beautifully filmed, worth it just for Danny Dyer’s wig!

I second Strictly Ballroom, if I could only watch one film for the rest of my life it would be this.

So I looked into nighty night and it's no longer on bbc , it's pay for only even with amazon prime... agh annoying

I've got it on dvd but no dvd player anymore 😩

Trepidfox · 31/12/2024 23:26

@Chimchar one of my favourite things is to watch Jane Mcdonald cruising and then force my husband sit through the bit at then end when she sings a cover version of a dance tune surrounded by rando's from the cruise 😂

Foxlover46 · 31/12/2024 23:52

Man on the Inside is good, as is The Good Place.

Both on Netflix

Thank you. It's been 2.5 weeks now. It's such a strange feeling, she never leaves the garden, this is possibly the first time she did and I think got spooked.

heartsinvisiblefury · 01/01/2025 07:20

If you haven't watched Schitts Creek, I am very jealous as I'd love to find that again and watch it for the first time!

First 3 episodes are a bit slow but once you get going you will love it!

What's this about??

It’s an Aussie show about a lawyer getting back into her career after her husband leaves her. I went in not knowing a thing about it and I loved it so much! Let us know if you try it x
