Buyers not collecting vinted parcels

beain · 30/12/2024 09:14

I sold something on vinted and the buyer hasn't collected it from the pick up point so it's being returned to me. I posted it out the same day they bought it.

It's just so annoying that there are no consequences in this scenario, I can't leave feedback because the sale won't be complete and the buyer will just get their money back like nothing happened.

It doesn't matter that I've used fuel to go to the lockers and back TWICE. It also doesn't matter that I've had to package it up with my own parcel bags that I bought with my own money.

AIBU to think vinted should offer a bit more protection for sellers?

You just need to factor that stuff into your pricing

How can I factor it in if I'm not going to get a single penny from the sale though?

They don't collect it, I don't get any money so the price doesn't matter.

I can’t imagine this happens often so it’s not something to worry about really.

People have busy lives and you never know what might be happening or why they can’t get to the post office.

It’s really not a big deal over a few pence in packaging and a few pence in petrol.

When you re-list it

I stopped sending to shops. Simples. I now only do delivery to homes. I'm a same day/next day poster, I generally take low/good offers and I'm fed up with politely waiting for people to pick up and then they get annoyed with me when I'm politely pleading with them to pick up on the last day. I'm just not playing that game. It hasn't affected anything, I've only ever had one person question why I don't send to shops. I know it's slightly more expensive but not much....and I say it's not affected anything in my experience. It's given me better peace of mind 😌

MyPithyPoster · 30/12/2024 09:27

This has happened to me twice. It’s so frustrating because as far as I’m concerned once it’s posted it’s sold. I’ve gone back to Ebay .

TheOccupier · 30/12/2024 09:28

Buyers only get 3 days to collect and at this time of year that can be difficult. Are you confirming that they will be able to get to the pickup point before you post things?

Star81 · 30/12/2024 09:28

A couple of times when something hasn’t been collected after a couple of days I message them and say ‘ just to let you know your parcel is there in case you didn’t get a notification’ and both times person has come back and said they didn’t get/ had missed the notification and then go collect straight away before returned.

as a buyer, if someone messaged me to ask if I was SURE I was able to use the method of postage that I already specifically chose, that would get my back up!

This is a good idea and I think I'll do the same thing.

I know people have busy lives but these people are choosing to have it delivered to a pick up point rather than their home address. But now it's starting to feel like it just gives them a free opportunity to change their minds and this only impacts the sellers.

I've bought probably hundreds of items over the years and I'll confess I've missed collection a couple of times. Once was because my DD and then I fell ill and weren't well enough to go out (I'm a lone parent so no one else I could ask to go). Once was because of a big work crisis where I had to unexpectedly work all hours.

It's happened to me as a seller too, to me it's just part and parcel of the platform.

@beaindo you need to buy packaging? I used any carrier bags & save old packages, I haven't had to buy any yet.

Tohaveandtohold · 30/12/2024 09:34

I’ve bought loads on Vinted and I’ve only not collected a parcel once and it was because the seller didn’t post till the last day. These were things I bought for a holiday and the day it arrived was when I’d just travelled. I would still have collected it when I returned if it was left for the same amount of time as it took the seller to post it but buyers only have 3 days.

beain · 30/12/2024 09:36

It's just so annoying that people are choosing that postage method when the option of home delivery is available. Surely if you're going to struggle to collect something then you just get it delivered to your house? This was a small item and could have gone through a letterbox.

If you're going to sell stuff you need to take the rough with the smooth. You could always donate it to charity if you can't manage the admin.

DowntheDrainpipe · 30/12/2024 09:40

Is there an option to turn off collection points? If so, I can’t see it.

As a seller I’ve noticed an increase in people not collecting and it is just rude most of the time. But my current biggest issue is that regardless of what postage options you’ve turned off, Vinted can choose to allow a sale using one of those anyway! Their rules state as such. They also say if you cancel it you won’t get negative feedback if it’s an option you physically can’t use because they don’t have a drop-off in your area. It makes zero sense to me they offer you the ability to switch those options off but they can also override them! Do they think magically I can suddenly send via one just because they’ve said so? It looks super shoddy explaining to a buyer why you’ve had to cancel a sale under these circumstances.

Strikeoutnow · 30/12/2024 09:48

Vinted is crazy to me in how quick people expect stuff to arrive, how quickly you have to collect it etc so I hardly ever use it. People have jobs, lives

notenoughteaintheworld · 30/12/2024 09:48

You can turn off collection points by pressing your icon in the top right, then going to settings, postage.

JMSA · 30/12/2024 09:49

That is annoying and very rude. I've bought loads on Vinted over the years and not once have I put a seller in this position. It's selfish and unjustified, especially if they haven't sent an apologetic message in advance.

Tbh I just got fed up with it. I was doing everything from my end that I could. I consider myself a really good seller. I'm not a massive seller and I don't sell regularly...tbh it's really when I get it on me to clear my house. As I say I take good offers and sell at low prices for really almost ,if not perfect items.

People have lied to me about picking up, hospital admissions, terrible car accidents, their mums terminaly ill, whatever, all sorts of reasons as to why they can't get there. I've had people say they've not had notifications, which ok, could be true, but I can't see why they wouldn't. I've had people say they've been to the shop and its not there/can't find it/shopkeeper doesn't care etc, which tbh I can believe.

But whatever the reason I'm totally fed up with it. It's just drama and hassle. I wait a reasonable 4/5 day window before reminding people to pick up and then on day 7 I'm pleading with them. And then they moan on your feedback that your hassling them lol.

Just take that option off. Best thing I ever did. I'm 50 years old, I don't want to be arguing with kids about picking up a top that's worth a fiver. Tbh if taking that option off means I lose a sale, I'd rather do it than go back to having the drama of these people not picking up.

Sossijiz · 30/12/2024 09:54

This is one of the many reasons why I take a long break from Vinted over the Christmas/New Year period.

Ive had this with stuff from high street shops

If you're new to Vinted you don't often realise how the delivery options work- it's not really flagged up or highlighted. You just press "buy", and then you realise that your pick up point is in the town 7 miles away that you rarely go to.

This also happened to me while selling- then I realised I could go into settings and disable every option that involved going miles, and just opt for the Evri pickup from our local village shop.

But I still got caught out buying a bag for my son for Christmas- somehow I didn't notice that it was being delivered to a Spar in the town 6 miles away where I only go to do my weekly shop. I wanted to wait 5 days to pick it up on the next weekly shop- and my god, the bombardment of emails!!

OddBoots · 30/12/2024 10:04

One of the issues is that collect is the default (and cheaper option) - I only want things delivered to my home but I have to make sure I remember to choose that option, unless I have missed something I can't set up my account to make that the default.

pasturesgreen · 30/12/2024 10:18

Recycled packaging is the way to go. Kinder to the environment and really no need to specifically buy new parcel bags when any old Amazon bag will do.
