Teen DS is dying to watch Squid Game. DH is all for it. I’m unsure as it’s v.violent. What do you think?

There no blood, gore or violence in it. It'll be fine. It's just a programme about 2 squid pitching their intellect against each other narrated by David Attenborough.

Gggglinda · 27/12/2024 20:16

Nope I wouldn't, too young.

Catcherintherice · 27/12/2024 20:17

I found it quite difficult to watch. I wouldn’t have wanted my children seeing it at 13.

MauveVelcro · 27/12/2024 20:17

We've just said yes to ds2 watching it and he's 14 (and 8 months!) - I'm still not keen on it tbh or sure we've made the right call. It took some convincing 😂

At 13 I'd say no.

LaplandProblems · 27/12/2024 20:18

Not a chance

No. I watch the deaths through my fingers 😂

BeSharpBee · 27/12/2024 20:21

Another vote for no.

TwinklyStarlight · 27/12/2024 20:21

No. Mine are making do with Beast Games.

GuessingGownaGoGo · 27/12/2024 20:21

Most of it's really boring.

Watch it yourself first to see what you think.
Just fast forward to the games and whizz through those then there's very little context to make it disturbing. You can watch all the games in an hour.

MrsR87 · 27/12/2024 20:21

Nope!

Starlightstarbright4 · 27/12/2024 20:22

It’s a no from me too .

i watched the first series . It is mindless killing for what turns out to be gambling .

Although I have to say my teen when 16 had seen loads on YouTube

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 27/12/2024 20:22

No

3WildOnes · 27/12/2024 20:23

No. I think I would say yes at 15, maybe.

ChristmasPudd1990 · 27/12/2024 20:24

My 13 year old has but I my after my husband has watched it first, then fast forwarding any bits that are too much.

RamsaySnowsSausage · 27/12/2024 20:24

Depends on your child.

I let mine at 13 because I knew he wouldn't follow it, would get bored and wander off, which he did.

Maybe not if they're the type to take things to heart/struggle to sleep etc.

edwinbear · 27/12/2024 20:24

DD watched the first series at 12. She wasn’t at all bothered by it, but she’s a big fan of all things horror. I watched a lot of horror at a similar age and wasn’t particularly phased by it. I think Squid Games bothered me more than her tbh, but it very much depends on your child.

It is both gruesome but also psychologically disturbing, if you have a child who can watch things through the lens of it being a completely made up TV programme it’s fine. For a sensitive child whose likely to dwell on it, absolutely not.

Sometimeswinning · 27/12/2024 20:26

Definitely yes! Mine turned 13 in September. He watched the first one. He’s a horror buff like me. He’s not silly and understands it’s not real. He started the new one last night.

WoahThreeAces · 27/12/2024 20:27

Nope.

skippy67 · 27/12/2024 20:27

I watched Game of Thrones with my 13yo dd years ago, so I'd say yes. My ds at the same age wouldn't have liked it at all.

FictionalCharacter · 27/12/2024 20:27

No, definitely not. Not just because of violence and death, which I think can be acceptable depending on context, but because of its sadistic gleeful nature.
